An Inverse Poem

that it will bloom again in spring

if my soul sheds its smile

cannot distract me from feeling,

as the trees shed their leaves,

the bitter sting of November rains

****

that it will shine again come morn

if my heart loses its light

cannot divert my eyes from seeing,

as the sun falls from grace,

the haunting gloom of impending darkness

****

that it will thaw with loving warmth

If my mind freezes in sorrow

cannot impede me from knowing,

as icicles hang from eaves,

the biting chill of arctic winds

****

that one day soon, I too, will sing again

as ice will melt, trees will bloom, birds will chirp

cannot preclude me sensing,

amidst a landscape of murky greys,

the haunting sounds of nothingness

Definitely one of the best Inverse entries so far! Loved the structure, the repetition, the way it does really work both ways, and lines like “the biting chill of arctic winds”. Well done👏🏾

This is gorgeous, Cathy. 2 truly beautiful poems made more beautiful in the inverse. It takes skill to weave together these words so artfully. Well done!

This is amazing, I so completely identify with that holding of knowledge and feeling that don't line up, and how you can feel two things at once like that.

Great poem! I can relate to the ice imagery and to the idea of melting our way through to new and healing thought patterns. Keep up the good work!

This is absolutely brilliant. I love that you evoked the senses in the lines you made your axes—"cannot preclude me sensing," "cannot divert my eyes from seeing,"—really clever, and far and beyond better than any of the reverse poems I found on google when I was trying to figure out how in the heck to write one of these. 😂
