Never Again

A poem

These cyanide hopes and arsenic wishes

asphyxiate slowly on dreams cold and vicious

Life is most cruel when you least expect it

Pay close attention cause the wounds are infected

Lungs squeezed so tight you can taste your own blood

and never again will you remember what's said

eyes filled to the brim with tears you won't cry

and never again will you defend your own pride

being kicked when you're down never feels good

no one seems to be acting quite like they should

alone with your thoughts that numb you to sleep

pay close attention cause the pain runs too deep

dreams dreamt so long you can see your own fate

and never again will you feel so much hate

mouth overfilled with words you can't say

and never again will you feel the same way

Be quiet. Just listen. absorb it all in

If you utter one syllable, the yelling won't end

Feeling so worthless from the time trapped inside

pay close attention cause there's no where to hide

Jaw clenched so tight you can taste your own death

and never again will you breathe your own breath

Gut filled with bile with nowhere to go

and never again will you trust what you know

Eternally haunted and broken within

you once were alive but never again

Wow this was shockingly moving! Even though I'm not sure I quite understood the intention (I'm still building my poetry literacy) I loved reading this incredibly powerful piece! I might have to read it a few more times to get through the layers and imagery

๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ What an amazing poem, Sara! I'm speechless! The first line was so impactful that it pulls you in right away. It's like the start of a horse race, as soon as the gates open, it's off to the races. Hope as is well, my friend. Brilliant performance. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ’–
