Lullabies of Raindrops

“Pitter patter. Pitter patter,”

The rain sings on as it falls,

“‘Tis time to sleep while all things creep

Amid these tiny walls.”

The rain will wash away the pain

Before the new day dawns.

It whisks away all shades of gray

And caresses what belongs.

It falls on earth, and tree, and sill.

It spatters on the sidewalk.

It fills the lakes, the creeks, the ponds

With it’s “pitter patter” talk.

So sleep now with simplicity

For tides will come anew.

The drops are naught but angel tears

To polish hearts held true.

The silent, silver lullaby

Shall rock you off to dreamlands

And wrap you up in comfy clouds

That hold you in God’s hands.

So pitter patter on and on

To wash away our sorrow.

“Forgive. Forget,” the droplets sing,

“You’ll have another chance tomorrow.”
