Loss

When you lose someone you love

My tears burn

My heart aches

There's a hole inside I can't shake

I'm tired, broken

My world cut open

I can't breathe, can't sleep

My heart so loud you can hear it beat

My eyes a blur

Praying for you to stir

To open your eyes, say goodbye

Tell me everything will be okay

Hold me one last time

Stay with me in my thoughts and my dreams

We were always meant to be a team

You've stolen away a part of me

So hold on to it

And take me with you

Let me keep you safe

You can give it back to me one day.

  • The exquisitely brutal pain of loss, beyond comprehension to any who have not already suffered it, an understanding we would never wish on any & would forestall for as long as we could, no matter how deeply we ourselves must bear the wound.
