hey you

a poem

hey you.

.

i've been watching for some time now,

and i know you feel it.

the pressure to perform, to dance to their beat,

to conform to their rhythm,

to drink down the fucking kool-aid.

it pushes on every square inch of

your body and mind

until you feel mad from the

need for release.

.

but the relief doesn't come, does it?

.

no, instead you swallow it down

choking on the fake bullshit,

the expectations,

the things that happen behind the scenes,

razor blades in your throat

shredding all the words you're desperate to say

until they're useless pulp,

swimming with bile

and bits of dreams.

.

i watch you struggle

as the effort to remain silent

slowly spreads like poison,

watch as the shine and

joy dim from your eyes,

see the lethargy take over,

as you begin to decompose.

.

i know because...

you're my reflection, my mirror,

a twin to pain and torment,

the yin to my yang.

.

and i know we wonder,

will we ever learn not to

give too much away,

feel too deeply,

try too hard,

or figure out when to

speak up,

or shut down,

or simply move on?

.

how does our story end...

sad poetry

Damn...this was so tense...eloquent, poetic, yes, but intense. Sad, heartbreaking, but beautifully expressed. As always. I've said it before, you are so very good at bleeding on the page/screen. I wish, you had more joyful things to write about, though I applaud the relatableness of this piece of poetry! Fin!
