guerilla word-fare
maybe what it feels like to be a dragon...
my vocal chords erupted
explosive force on each word
effortless precision on targets
a torrent of unstoppable aftermath
pre-silent seething
under professional demeanor
neutral voice tone and facial expression
amidst relentless combustion
polite smiles with firm handshakes as standard
stoked ignition points i had no clue would blaze so bright
to reflect on fixed faces in my blast radius
as fiery spew incinerates policies of
finance over families
mass production over mental health management
sanctions trump social programs
regulation supersedes recognition
classification criteria kicks common sense and compassion’s ass
that i never knew they even had
me a one-woman rage inferno
of choice adjectives to expletives-mix accelerant
producing smoke plumes visible from the iss
self-induced excoriation of bronchial mucosa
not a consideration for active treatment
as the ‘usuals’ resurrect awareness
reconvene and release a public statement
thank me for my candor
after alerting pr before the fire department
then offer me chilled water
imported from a mountain spring in the himalayas
public announcements
are a flood of conciliatory remarks 'oh-so' genuine sounding
soothing
convey remorse
highlight negative degrees of climate change impact
planned initiatives for minimum wage increases
leveled playing fields from now on as standard
they emphasize the colossal scope for implementation
and how we “need a committee”
and tertiary access to government resources
funding reliant on applications near deadlines
written proposals
pending unknown eta for approval within respective timeframes
pursuant status updates
contained in progress reports dispensed during quarterly meetings
and an administrative team
with requisite stationery supplies on a separate budget/payroll
plus input from legal
complications that could not have been foreseen
therefore
now
i often wear my rampage turned 'outside-in'
secure beneath protective sealants
so that my heart’s justice-seeking heat will endure
to fight and fire another day.
I truly appreciate that you took the time to read my poem. Kindest of thanks!
