Gold For Me
Greek/Roman God Dionysus/Bacchus | Patron of wine, pleasure, and fertility
King Midas Lore | AKA The Golden Touch
Gold for me.
Only for me.
Mountainous of riches
That everyone can see!
Trinkets, diamonds, and drachmas.
I bathe in money.
My blood is of ichor -
A true blue blood I am!
So, kneel until your knees bleed,
Then bow your heads and show me respect.
My glory is one to behold.
Curse the Pantheon!
They thrive in poverty.
They beg for our prayers.
They are at our mercy.
Unlike I, King Midas,
My touch gives you wealth...
Generously.
Absorb my glory.
Praise my name.
Hail King Midas!
For I represent true avarice.
Oh, how blessed I am!
Truly, your eyes are filled with such envy!
Green with jealousy!
But what is this curse?
For everything I touched turns into gold.
I fear my greed has gone too far.
I seek the grace of my daughter,
The life itself, my dear child, Zoë.
But my hands are hexed
they'll bring her danger!
Forgive my greed, Lord Dionysus,
I should know better.
I vow to remember your caution forever.
Please cure my soul
And let me wash the sins of these hands.
Lead me to the river of Pactolus
And I shall ne'er do more harm.
Oh, this gold is not for me
As everyone can see.
This gold is not for you and me
As everyone must see.

Hi, I'm CyCy!
Thank you for reading. I truly appreciate it!
This poem, unlike the others, came as a musical score while I'm staring at a wall.
Why am I staring at a wall?
Not too sure, but I stopped questioning "why I am the way I am" a long time ago. It's a losing battle. LOL
Anyway, maybe one day, I will have enough to compile into a book.
What is the King Midas Lore?
King Midas is a tragic lore that portrays how avarice (greed) can blind a person from realizing true happiness.
If he recognized that turning everything, including food and living beings, into gold was a curse, he would not have found himself enslaved by his desires.
In Nathaniel Hawthorne's version in his book "A Wonder Book for Girls and Boys (1852), Midas had accidentally turned his daughter, Zoë, into gold. Distraught and desperate to free himself from the curse, he pleaded Dionysus for help.
In response, Dionysus instructed him that any object or living beings that have been submerged in the river Pactolus would be cleansed of his curse.
And so, he did.
The result had turned the river's sand into gold, which had become the origin myth for Alyattes Dynasty of Lydia, the descendant of Midas.
However, in Aristotle's version, Midas' curse was never lifted and he starved to death.
In conclusion, getting involved with the Deities can cause your grievance, or you may receive exceptional blessings. In this lore, however, Dionysus is much more merciful than the other lores we have recently covered. That is, of course, you ignore Aristotle's grim version.
Either way, proceed with caution.
P.S. Don't worry. I will always try to remind you. 🍀
