Are you still sleeping?

a poem about the empty promises of "progress"

Here,

Lost someplace in the expanse of universe,

A whole world exists.

People worship power, people fear curses,

And people live by rules in arbitrary structures.

When all this fades away, what will persist?

Here,

Confused and bombarded by falsities,

We bow our heads and pray for mercy

Until hope is lost, and humanity lies in pieces.

Dreams exist because we are all asleep;

We would need to be awake to make room for reality.

Here,

Below the stars, we created catastrophe.

We watch our world dissolve.

Maybe we hold the power, maybe we are the curse.

We try to turn the earth in reverse, but this hollow feat

Is merely a diversion from the problem we won’t solve.
