A Beautiful Angel

A free-verse poem inspired by the movie Harold and Maude. This poem is about the movie character Harold Chasen himself

His eyes are round,

sweet and soft

like fuzzy peaches and nectarines.

They’re blush and bright

like creamed raspberries

and cranberries.

His short hair is dark

like chocolate brownies,

thick as a blanket

and smooth like silk satin.

His lips are red

like scarlet hearts,

thin like silky ribbons

and delicious

like strawberry preserves.

His face is gorgeous as

a male baby-faced porcelain doll

who smiles to hide his inner wounds.

He’s clothed in black and sadness

than in colours of joy, peace,

happiness, love, spring and summer.

The banjo is his therapist,

the hearse is his brother,

funerals are his escape,

the old lady is his best friend.
