Why Continue The Struggle?

Written by a human, for humans, always.

The truth is...

I struggle...

A lot.

More often than most people realize.

If you were to speak with my wonderful spouse about it...

She would tell you what she tells me...

I do it to myself.

And...

Often it is true.

I put pressure on myself to reach new heights...

I ask questions that others refuse to ask...

I seek answers that no one can currently give...

I continue to educate myself in industries that are difficult to master...

I hold myself accountable to goals and deadlines that are not required by anyone else...

I do not settle for the successes that I have had...

And I've done and achieved more in my career so far than most people do in their lifetimes.

If I wanted to...

I could take easier paths...

I could call things good...

I could allow my successes to keep the rest of my career afloat.

I know many people who have done so with much less to their names.

So the question becomes...

Why?

Why continue to struggle?

When most people try to run away and escape from struggle...

Why would anyone seek it out?

For me...

The answer is that I feel called to move forward.

All the things that I do...

Have a purpose.

I am not doing them for recognition...

Or to have a specific career...

Or to earn a certain amount of money...

Or to make life easier.

I do it all...

Because I feel more like myself pursuing this path...

Because the opportunity to discover answers no one else has is exciting...

Because I get to help others in ways that are needed...

Because each day I struggle and beat the struggle...

Proves to myself how much more I am capable of.

I do it all because I am following where I am being called to in life...

And perhaps that calling will change over time...

Maybe one day there will be fewer struggles...

Maybe...

Or perhaps the struggles will only grow.

I really do not know...

But...

What I have discovered in my life...

Is that when I truly follow out the calling that is before me...

Even when it is difficult...

Even when it seems to be in a completely different direction from yesterday...

Even when it is beyond what most people believe is reasonable...

That I end up finding myself through the journey.

This is what the drive behind a calling really is...

It is a journey to become a better version of yourself...

Not for your own sake...

Not to obtain what the world tells you is important...

Not because it will make your life easier...

But because through the struggle you begin to see how you are interconnected in the world around you...

And you begin to cultivate yourself within that world.

Over time, things may change...

The landscape may become redefined...

Others will come and go...

You may change...

What had value may lose value...

What was valueless may become priceless...

Sacrifices that are heartbreaking may need to be paid...

And...

In following that calling...

You will continue forward into what feels right.

Following that calling...

Often comes with struggles...

Struggles which may feel like they are ready to destroy you...

Yet...

If you follow it anyways...

Toward the greater good...

You will find that the struggles hold no power over you.

You will choose to continue to struggle...

Because you begin to understand that the calling is greater.
