Vulnerability: Not always negative

Vulnerable is a very common term, you all must have heard it, if not maybe you are vulnerable without having the slightest haunches. The term usually refers to a state in which the person becomes open to emotional and physical harm. Specifically, we can refer to a group, system or a person that is in need of support and is susceptible to attack or harm.

Several factors can trigger vulnerability in a person like emotional trauma, social or economic status, environmental issues, health and personal circumstances. Being vulnerable makes a person likely to have a bad experience, taken advantage of that's why it is extremely important to address the vulnerabilities when possible.

Everyone has at least once in their life felt so vulnerable emotionally that even a single blink of eyes can make the tears roll down the cheeks. It is mostly common to sensitive and emotional people or you can refer as overthinkers…Every bit of little inconvenience burdens their soul and heart making them feel lonely in this populous world. The two words vulnerability and emotions are deeply interlinked. When strongly traumatized people become more vulnerable making them exposed to harm. This is due to a number of reasons.

Being emotionally sensitive makes you more reactive and interferes with your ability to judge. Emotions can impair the ability to think rationally and logically. It leads to impulsive decisions that we later might regret. Emotions make us over-share our feelings and thoughts, which is both positive and negative. Expressing our emotions makes us light, calm, and light, on the other hand, it also makes us vulnerable and being judged. Emotions are usually triggered by past traumas, imaging losing someone near and dear even in the happiest moments these past traumas make you sad, as nothing makes you happy when in your mind you are constantly craving for the voice, touch, or hug of a dear one who has departed from this world.

These emotions expose our weaknesses and make us vulnerable. It should also be important to remember that being vulnerable is not always a negative thing. It can sometimes be a sign of courage and strength, as it requires a lot to express our emotions and feelings. You need to master your feelings so that you can make brave and rational decisions on how to share feelings with others.

We all are vulnerable at some point in life or in the presence of a particular person. Now the question arises of how we can avoid being emotionally vulnerable. First of all, it's not necessary to avoid vulnerability unless you are in such an emotional state that makes you feel discomforted. In order to avoid vulnerability the first thing to do is set your boundary and never let anyone cross it unless you wish to. Let people know when they are crossing their bound and immediately mark a full stop there.

Don't overshare your feelings. Wisely select the persons you trust and who have rightly earned the trust to listen to your part of the story without being judgmental. Limit your circle to the person who really matters, not everyone deserves to know everybody.

Self-care is the utmost step to avoid vulnerability. Take good care of yourself emotionally, practice meditation, yoga, exercise and give time to people who support and uplift you.

If you ever feel that you are being a bit too vulnerable emotionally, seek help from a counselor who can help you manage any underlying issues and your emotions. You must keep in mind that there is no shame in seeing a therapist.

It is forever part of natural human experience to feel vulnerable, it can lead you towards the road of personal growth. The thing you need to consider is to prioritize your well-being and protect yourself whenever necessary.
