The Gift Or Curse Of Exponential Expansion

What Most People Fail To Understand In Their Desire For Growth

How do you get greater results?

It is a question that most people ask...

And the majority come to the same conclusion...

Expansion.

If you want to make more revenue...

You increase your sales.

If you want to grow a following...

You increase posts/videos/articles/etc.

If you want a better relationship...

You increase the time spent with the other person.

If you want to improve your health...

You increase your exercise.

There are many different ways that expansion can play out...

And expansion can be a gift that creates greater results...

But...

It can also become a curse.

See...

What you need to understand is that all forms of expansion...

Create exponential results.

Exponential results can be good...

But they can also cause exponential harm to your results.

A garden that has weeds that spread exponentially is not the result a gardener wants.

When you begin to expand...

Everything becomes exponential...

What is good grows exponentially...

But so do all of the problems that you have.

What makes this tricky to understand...

Is that different factors in success have different starting points and different levels of exponential results.

I can show you what I mean with a little simple math (I'll do the calculations; you can verify if you'd like).

Let's say that you have something that seems successful...

But there are some challenges that you have.

For every $2.00 you make, you lose $1.50 from it due to costs and challenges around those costs...

Meaning you take away $0.50 each time.

(You could make it $20 and $15, $200 and $150, $2,000 and $1,500... Or any multiple higher. It really doesn't change what you will see.)

That is some success, but most people want more than that.

Now, most people believe that if you double the efforts, then you'll begin to make double the revenue...

But when they double the effort, they discover that they only make $0.625, which would either round up or down depending on the context...

But it is less than the $1.00 that would be expected for doubling the efforts.

Why?

Because the problems have a higher exponential expansion than the gains.

The math is "not" X*($2.00-$1.50) = Y where X is effort and Y is results

Rather, it is more like...

$2.00^(2^(X-1))-$1.50^(3^(X-1)= Y

The $2.00 has an exponential impact of 2, while the $1.50 has an exponential impact of 3.

So, if you put in normal effort...

$2.00^(2^(1-1))-$1.50^(3^(1-1))=$0.50

Then if you double the effort...

$2.00^(2^(2-1))-$1.50^(3^(2-1))=$0.62 (rounded down)

But...

What happens if you try to triple the effort?

$2.00^(2^(3-1))-$1.50^(3^(3-1))=-$22.44 (rounded down)

Suddenly...

With triple the effort, you are getting exponentially worse results.

All because the weight of the problems is exponentially worse than the weight of the positives.

But...

This is also not how most people approach exponential expansion...

Usually they are not simply doubling or tripling their efforts...

They try to put in exponential efforts to get exponential results.

The problem...

Is that most of the time...

They have no concept of the exponential factors and how they will play out at larger levels.

This is why when many things attempt to go into Exponential Expansion...

They discover it is not a gift...

But rather a horrifying curse.

All of the flaws, problems, and barriers do not ease...

They become vastly worse...

Frequently outweighing the good.

On a small scale...

The problems can be eased out because of how small things are...

But when you begin to expand everything...

Especially quickly...

Most discover that the "little problems" have the potential to destroy everything.

You try to make more sales...

But the quality of products becomes vastly worse, and customer complaints multiply.

You try to increase your following...

But people become tired of what you create and become irritated with how much there is.

You try to spend more time in the relationship...

But the disagreements only become worse, destroying the relationship faster.

You try to increase your time and effort at the gym for your health...

But you break your body in the process.

Putting in more effort and expanding what you do is not always a positive thing.

It only makes things occur at higher exponentials...

Which can be a good thing...

If what is going right is fantastic and the problems are kept to a minimum.

But...

If the problems are not at a minimum...

And what is going right cannot outweigh it significantly...

Then the most likely scenario is that exponential expansion will feel like a curse.

The more effort you put into something...

The worse it will feel and become...

And...

The faster you attempt to attain expansion...

The more significant the pain will become.

What makes this more important in today's world...

Is that there are more tools and technology that are making it easier to create exponential expansion.

If you get the right tools and technologies...

Instead of just doubling your efforts...

You might be able to 10x your efforts or even 100x your efforts very quickly.

Now...

If you saw how quickly things can change in the equation when you move from doubling to tripling efforts...

Imagine how much more quickly things can get out of hand when you 10x or 100x the efforts.

Do you want to see the math?

$2.00^(2^(10-1))-$1.50^(3^(10-1))=...

Well, I would show you the result...

But when I attempted to put it into my phone calculator, it would not accept the calculation...

And...

When I attempted to put it into Google's calculator...

It said, "-Infinity".

That is not technically true...

But you probably get the point.

You can translate "-Infinity" as "more problems than you can handle".

Most people think that expansion is the answer...

But often...

It is not the answer that is needed at that time.

Expansion "can" be fantastic...

But only if what you are expanding on is built on a very solid base.

What most people need is not to expand...

At least not initially.

Most of the time, people need to reduce the problems they have first...

Make what they are accomplishing more successful with the same efforts...

Long before they consider expanding.

Don't be too hasty to enter exponential expansion.
