A Trail To Victory
I ended 2016 in despair. I was sick most of the year and put on a lot of weight because I suddenly was not active anymore. When 2017 started, I had a plan. I would lose the weight by working out hard and running, like I used to do. 2017 would be very different than the past years, because I was no longer coaching cross country and had time on my hands. How would I fill the time, I wondered? I decided that I would sign up for my first Spartan Race. It was in June at a venue in Tuxedo, New York, a Sprint. I had been running and lifting consistently by that time and thought I was ready. My training up to that point included running 4 to 6 miles per day and lifting 3 to 4 times per week. I had already completed a few 5Ks for the year as well as my first obstacle course race, a Warrior Dash. I figured, how hard could it be? Well I was dead wrong about what I was about to encounter. It was amazing. I felt defeated by the end of it, but that is not what this story is all about. I did complete my first Spartan Race and with that completion I was challenged. I needed to not only do better in my next race, but I would take on an entire trifecta in my first season. I was hooked. I even have a tattoo to prove it, which took 3 stages to complete. My tattoo artist filled in each color after I completed each level of racing.

Little Person, Lizzie Martinez,
She is a little person who stands only 3’ 7” and is the only little person in her family. She began writing at a young age and had some of her poetry placed in the National Library of Congress when she lived in Michigan. Lizzie flourished in her writing career and wrote a bio for Chat Magazine UK and around the same time had her first book “Capturing Silence: Silenced Poetry” published. She was so proud of the work that she had completed that she kept writing more and more. While many at this point didn't believe she should continue. Those people wanted her to fail because they too had failed so many times to count that they easily gave up, but not Lizzie. She continued.

Note to Self: A Twisted Lesson Learned
This was it! It was the day I’ve prayed long and hoped for. A moment I could only dream of since as early as I could remember. I was finally going to be performing my first debut album, “Note to Self," center stage. It speaks about the lessons I’ve learned being a vessel during my life experience, and I artistically take my listeners on my journey through music. The album is a mixture of music compositions, spoken word, and interludes of me talking about the wonders of life. I used my obstacles, challenges, and my rewarding adventures to be a guide for those that walk a route behind me regardless if they’re generational acquaintances, peers, or descendants down the line that comes after me who haven't yet met the progression I was currently in at the time.
