Our Paths Are Not the Same

To each his journey

There comes a stage in a person's life, where they begin to question what they are, who they are, or what they are doing on this earth. This stage is where people begin to find themselves—or try to; you might also look at other peoples' lives and compare them to yours, and wonder why you are where you are. I believe this stage in a person's life is very crucial. Honestly there is not much shaping in someone's life when they are kids as some believe; I think the shaping comes much later, mid-twenties to be a bit more precise.

As a child, everything is pretty much lined up for us; the school we go to, the lunch we take to school, what we wear, when we play, when we study. Many kids don't understand why things are the way they are, they just know that's how things are. As kids we follow a plan set out by others, but as we get older, we begin to make those plans. And because we start to understand that if things don't go right, we really only have ourselves to blame, we become more careful with the way we plan things. That's where the shaping begins if you ask me. But no doubt, the foundation and the core of who we are comes from an early stage.

When we get to that stage in life where we begin to question our existence, it's very easy to compare ourselves to others, because naturally we don't have all the answers, so we look elsewhere to know if we have it right. This time in a person's life usually begins when we are beginning a new phase in our lives, entering a new chapter—like graduating from university or college, moving to a new city and getting a new job. There are different kinds of people at this stage;

The Clear Sights—these are the people that have a clear plan for themselves, from what they study, to the kind of person they get married to, and where their children will grow up. I find these people scary if you ask me, how does anyone have it all planned out, how are you sure it's all going to go the way you want. I also find them intimidating sometimes.

The Going with the winds—these guys are a little bit carefree, they don't stress about their future. They tend to be optimistic and believe everything will work out fine in the end. They don't do a lot of planning, they just go with almost anything that comes their way.

The Dependents—I'll say these people don't worry for themselves, other people do the worrying, AKA parents or some other family members. These people have their life planned out, but not by them. Someone else has set their path in life and they just follow suit, seems like being a child again. Only this time they understand things, but are okay with it. It might seem like a stress free life, but if you want to dictate what happens in your life, you'll pass on this lifestyle.

The By Faiths—these guys are a little bit of the "clear sights," and the "going with the winds." They plan alright, but they are also optimistic, and believe that not everything always goes as planned. The other important fact about them is that they believe in something or someone greater that is in control of their life. It may be through religion or something else.

I believe everyone is a little bit of everything, but in the end it is important to know that your life is different from the person next to you. Just because you walked parallel paths to each other at some point in your life does not mean you will end up at the same place. Don't compare yourselves to others, walk at your own pace, and find what is right for you.
