We're simply canoeing adventurers

Sometimes, things turn entirely upside down on their heads which leaves you flabbergasted. Sometimes, promises aren’t kept, and you wonder what went wrong so quickly. Sometimes, everything suddenly becomes so up in the air that you can’t predict or plan what to do in the next two weeks.

And it’s okay if you’re in that situation. I’ve been there. Many have been there, probably more than we all care to admit. But things happen. Sometimes, no matter how much you plan ahead and get your ducks in a row, those ducks can get whisked away by a current.

That current is called life; we’re simply the adventurers canoeing down the stream it’s in, following its path. We can’t fight how the current will randomly push and pull at us, no matter how experienced we are. We can only ride it and let it lead us to a destination.

But half the time, we want to fight it because we’re afraid of what that destination can be. We humans loathe the unknown. We want everything to come to light. We want to know everything before we make a choice. But that’s not how life works. It’s not how the current takes us on a journey. We must embrace the unknown, trust the current and work with it, having faith that it will take us to safety; a place more blissful than we could ever desire.

But to work with the current like that, we must let go. We have to let go of the past. We must let go of the plans we held so dear that fell apart within seconds. We must move on to greater, bolder things, and enjoy the journey that the current is taking us on.

We are simply adventurers canoeing down the stream, letting the current of life take us forward to embrace the unknown with faith in ourselves. Embrace the unknown, and a plethora of opportunities will come. Embrace the unknown, and life can provide you something more wonderful than your creative mind could ever dream to make manifest.

It’s okay if the current shifts your path toward something else. It happens to everyone. Allow your emotions to come and go during the situation, but in the end, don’t panic. Panicking only makes the current seem more like an enemy than a friend. You want the water guiding you to be a friend, not an enemy.

So trust that the current will guide you safely. Take your oar and flow with it, doing whatever actions inspire you towards a new goal and opportunity. A new path in the adventure. And if you stop to look around, you’ll see that we’re all there with you on the same current, being pulled in different and unexpected directions, having to embrace the unknown as we take action toward our desires. We’re all adventurers learning to embrace and enjoy the journey that the current is taking us on.

As you venture forth, remember that there will always be a bright blue sky above you to lift your spirits. Clouds are only temporary blockages of light. There will always be solid earth beneath your feet to keep you grounded, no matter how swiftly other things move around you.

The current will take you to bigger and better things if you let it and have faith in it. Don’t let fear drive you into nightmares of drowning. Nothing comes of it. Your energy as an adventurer is better used for dreaming and taking steps toward vast, beautiful landscapes with mountains that rise and pierce toward space. You are meant to use your voice like a bird’s song that fills hearts with joy. Follow the current, and look towards those mountains with your head held high to new beginnings and opportunities.

Sometimes unexpected things happen. But in the end, there’s always a blissful adventure that awaits.
