5 affirmations that changed my life
Finding happiness seems to becoming a nearly unreachable goal, people search all over for quick fixes and distractions. I have come to the conclusion that the only way to achieve true happiness is through yourself. Being willing and open to putting hard work in. There is no quick fix I'm afraid. It’s a battle that at some point or another we all have to fight. The new year has just passed and with it the expectation to start a fresh. Rather than tell myself what i should be achieving this year I'm choosing to look back on the important lessons I have learnt and how I can continue to grow with these affirmations in mind.

Self Compassion: What Does It Really Look Like?
“You’re inner critic is simply a part of you that needs self-love”, Amy Leigh Mercree The last few years seem to have been full of mistakes for me. One after another, just piling up like a Jenga puzzle. Ready to collapse at any given moment. What I realized is that every mistake comes with an emotional impact. It ignites feelings of shame, guilt and fear. These can overwhelm you and take over your progress. You become paralyzed and stuck. What I’ve discovered is only you have the power to overcome this obstacle. There is one sound answer to heal from these wounds, and that is self-compassion.

How emotions impair your judgment and why you shouldn't let them
Perception isn't always reality by Monique Williams Emotions are sometimes much like a mirage. Emotions can be illusive. And as much as our emotions can feel intensely real, and we can feel very passionate about things or certain events that take place in our lives, sometimes things are not what they seem. If you're having a hard time understanding what I mean, I'll lead this conversation with an example. Say for instance, you have a heated argument with your romantic partner after finding out they were flirting with someone else. Although, this kind of behavior can easily be misconstrued as something that deserves a breakup, or that you should just cut the situation off, that may be your emotions barking at you. Some people do see flirting as cheating, so it all depends on the person. But, sometimes wanting to walk away without getting the closure you need or without a conversation could just be your emotions driving this behavior. I'll be honest, if I were ever in this situation, which I have been before, I'd be pretty angry too.

Dealing with Trauma
Trauma - A deeply depressing or disturbing experience Dealing with trauma is a job on its own. For black and brown folk especially in the inner cities, trauma is almost a norm. And it comes in a variety of forms. We are all subjected to some type of traumatic experience at a young age. I'm speaking generally If you didn't experience something traumatic then kudos to you. However, for inner-city youth, Trauma is like breathing. So many of us experience it so frequently we eventually become numb to it.

Don’t Give Up!!
This thing called life is hard. Its draining both to the mind, and the soul. If you are not careful, it will suck the very desire to live right out of you. I am not one to discuss those who have taken their lives; in all honestly I know nothing about it. I know I have thought about it once or twice, but nothing more than a thought. You see I was always afraid of taking my own life. I always believed if there was anyone who could screw up a suicide, it would be EDB. TruthBeTold, I would say if it wasn’t for this process of thought, I might not be here writing you!! I didn’t want to be that guy, who had to face everyone after he’d screwed up. WHICH BRINGS ME, to another point. Is there a lower level to depression? Meaning most of think, those who take their lives have reached rock bottom right? Suicide is the final straw to a brewing fire of emotion? But does something live deeper down?

Florida
It is late morning on avenue at a city bus stop. Under the awning of the laundromat stand a couple with two large bags of laundry standing in the shade on the sidewalk. A grey jeep passes the bus stop then suddenly slams on the brakes. The couple shakes at the loud screeching of the jeep’s tires. The jeep changes gear and revs backwards. Tires grind pavement as the vehicle comes to a halt in front of the couple. Out from the vehicle shouts, Mr Errington! The spikey haired bleach blond man steps forward to attempt seeing who is talking to him from the jeep. The dark figure leans forward inside the vehicle rolling down the tinted window revealing an elderly white haired man whose face and neck are red as he shouts in anger at the punk rocker, "Who are you with?!". The punk rocker looks surprised, steps back and says, " Why me?". The man hollars don't look sorry now that I caught you! The woman steps forward holering in a thick german accent , "You can't tell me what to do!" as she shakes her fist at the man in the jeep. The old man retorts, “ I may not be able to tell you what to do... BUT I CAN TELL HIM WHAT TO DO! , so stay QUIET!!”. “Mr Errington,... report to the office at 10am tomorrow!” The German woman responds,” You can’t do this, we are married. You can’t stop us!”

The Reflective Discovery
It’s very interesting how we learn and come across new findings. Through the years of “surviving” life and finding oneself I came across a familiar face of which I was not expected to come across. One of the old group of friends that I used to be apart of before disbandment is where I met them. At the time I was very sheltered and had walls put them to prevent any pain and growth to develop for me. Now in my mind I thought of him as someone who was eager and ready to take on the world but as for me, my emotions wasn’t fully acknowledged and thus me becoming oblivious to the potential of what could have been.

It Is Your Job To Get Happy
Hello everyone and good morning on #BellLetsTalk Day 2020; one of my favourite days of the year for so many reasons. Last year, I wrote my very first published article, 5 Key Self-Care Tips for Beginners on Vocal. I remember how overwhelmed I was by the positive response and I'm still forever thankful for all the support I have gotten on my articles.
