Am I Good Enough?
This is the first time I've ever written anything so personal that will be made public in this way. So, lets dive right in I guess. For as long as I can remember I've had issues seeing value in myself. Whether it was how I looked or my personality it has been hard for me to be comfortable with who I am.

The Impalpable Scars of a Surgical Nurse
My name is Kathryn and I am lucky to have a second chance at this thing called happy ever after and I am letting my heart guide the way on this one. I am not usually one to express my emotions but this topic near and dear to my heart. Mental health concerns and nurse suicide is on the rise and I have zero tolerance for workplace violence especially in the operating room. My story is inspired by the song “YOU” by James Arthur that released in October 2019. The song found me at a pivotal time in my life and the lyrics greatly impacted my perspective regarding the trials and tribulations I have experienced in my life. My journey has been quite interesting but strangers would never realize the inner struggle I faced daily because I was wearing a mask to hide the pain I was truly experiencing. I am one of six children growing up in the small town of Murphysboro Illinois. My parents divorced before I reached the age of two and my mother moved out of state leaving me with my father. This caused me to have abandonment issues growing up and my home life was not stable. From the outside looking in on my family, no one would know the truth of what was going on inside my home. I did not let my home environment show through to others during my younger years. Learning quickly at an early age to transform my pain into power by taking a deep dive into sports and school activities taking my mind off of issues in my home environment.

A Page Of My Diary
How I felt in this moment- You know that feeling when your sad but you don't really know why, and you don't tell anyone because "your just hormonal" or "overdramatic" " attention seeking". That feeling when your numb just numb. That feeling when you wanna be different, you wanna be you, so you find something that makes you "different" but your just "copying others", "trying to act cool?". That feeling when your sadness is like a little secret you have with yourself like a crush. That feeling when your guilty for feeling this way. That feeling after you've broken down and fallen asleep and wake up feeling "dumb". That feeling that your just upset now and you'll be "fine" later. That feeling when you listen to all your favorite sad songs "about you". That feeling when you finally open up to someone only to feel guilty and embarrassed for telling your sad secret. Well I know this feeling all to well and ill probably realize I have wasted my time writing this because "ill be fine later".

Slow Down
I spent more than a year gunning it at full speed in the wrong direction. A life of excess that just morphed into something uncontrollable. By the time I stopped the damage, it had been done: I gained so much weight, dug myself into a $25,000 credit card debt hole, and my mental state was just shot.

When It Hurts
October 25th, 2019, was the day I was robbed of my dreams. I had lost sight of all my goals and with them the will to live. Battered, I was ready to put an end to everything I had or wished to have. On that fateful day, I lost three close friends to a car accident and drinking. And as if that was not enough, the woman I had loved all my life, cheated on me and jilted me. I was hurt, humiliated, and alone.

Think Then Do and Beware the Perils of Passion
A friend from high school visited me recently and the inevitable walk down memory lane recapped the last 20 years, catching up on family, travels, employment and other pertinent facts of life. While contemplating choices made throughout the course of our lives, my old friend asked, “How do you ever really know if you’re making the right decisions?”.

The loss of a loved one matures the soul...
... When a loved one withdraws from life unexpectedly, it becomes very difficult. Time seems to stop, and bereavement is so depressing that you can no longer watch what is happening around you, smell no more, see no color, just a sigh of pain…

Let Go
Where do I begin. I have an amazing story to tell. Its about getting unstuck. The song I have been obsessed with these past few days which has prompted me to enter this contest is b urn the ships by For King and Country. I have never related to a song like I do this one, so I believe many will too relate. Its been a long long time, staying stuck in my past. It happened in October of 2007. Three months later it was the beginning of many distressed emotions.

I am not angry, I am afraid
'' You are the angriest person I've ever met ''. I've heard these words hundreds of times before since I was a child, but they still hurt as if it would be the first time. Over and over again, it pains me to hear this sentence. It hurts because it makes me realise that I failed again to show the emotion I feel underneath in an appropriate way, and after all, I am not angry, I am afraid.
