Taking a step back to move forward
It has been one week since I voluntarily gave a one-month notice at a company where I was a full-time employee from the last four years. It wasn't an easy decision for me but this was a long time coming, pretty much the day I started working for this company as I've been thinking about my exit plan ever since. But I never thought that I would be dropping this bombshell in the middle of a pandemic when quitting a stable full-time job would be a bigger deal.

Realizations of a King
What is the role of a King? Kings have multiple roles. They must be leaders, builders, lawmakers, peacekeepers, warriors, and role models. There is a reason for that saying heavy is the head that wears the crown. Nowadays, everyone wants to be a king. With the birth of the social media era, people live to be followed, but what people fail to realize is that everyone who follows you doesn't always have your best intentions in mind.

Feeding The Fear
During this global pandemic I realized a few things. One of them being, how the human race handles stress under pressure and how we treat one another. One can argue that we have the power and right to act accordingly as we live in a society that is constantly telling us that they always know best.. but in the grand scheme of things...do we even know what's best for ourselves? Like many people during these times, I had the opportunity to bunker down with myself for a solid four months. What I came to understand is how I still did not know much about who I was nor was I trying. What I learned is that at a later age, I inherited most of my parents' bad habits and picked up a few along the way. I guess I was waiting for some sort of divine intervention and began praying to God for some handouts, just when I felt I was slipping into a world of chaos.

Here, into 2021
I heard that 2020 was the year of the butterfly. That prospect left me with mixed feelings. I often spent time in my life watching butterflies and even trying to follow after a few, so I remember all that had gained, usually bitter disappointment. However, that said, the gentle manner of the butterfly is soothing. The calm of the butterfly brings a peacefulness and the weather in which to watch and enjoy butterflies usually rolls in on the exiting April and into May all the way through September. I hope it means the butterfly has landed instead. That the year will be marked with beauty and transformation rather than the somewhat gut wrenching dance and escape of flittering erratic motions of the Butterfly. The Papillion as the French call it. Or Le papillon which I find interesting because I don't believe butterflies are usually thought of as masculine. There is a 2002 film called Le Papillion or The butterfly but I am reminded of the original film with Dustin Hoffman and starring Steve McQueen. McQueen has several run ins with captures and was ultimate banished to a prison colony on an island which made me think naturally of Napoleon on banishment. Hoffman being slightly diminutive made me think they were possibly eluding to some real life historical person who had been cast off to imprisonment on an island only to find the mild fate of Napoleon living out his days in exile to Elba, a Mediterranean Island. Seems pretty luxurious for the tyrannical emporor to be sent to an island. For all the self proclaimed greatness and the seeming boldness he turned quiet meek in the retreat to Elba. I find the movie Papillion must be historical and real. And the man, who, mistaken in identity, was cast off to Elba also naturally finding Napoleon there confined he would let the island keep himself. Hoffmann character remarked about the craziness of that man's proposal. The man fashioned an escape and kept off the extremely high island to dodge his way through the jagged rocky waters. The once extremely bold Napoleon sat ineffectually, to meek to escape Elba's confinement while the daring boldness of the Papillion, who the French must have known through lore about him, as the only one to have ever escape the treacherous waters of Elba, had finally earned him freedom. Maybe in fact Napoleon himself had been hunting Papillion and then in a twist was cast, in like, to the same island, yet the Papillion won freedom. Maybe the Papillion told his own story to the people and nonone was the wiser about it. It was said he was never heard from again. I find the butterfly feminine which is possibly a sexist point of view but, all in all, most likely agree with me about that. They are quite a beautiful transformation. From the somewhat ugly, pudgy, worm-like caterpillar to the vibrant butterfly. From crawling as manner of travel to the freedom of flight. The message of the butterfly, what we can see from watching it, is beauty. And it brings that beauty freely to the world. The world needs a transformation anyway. I am certain Hoffman was, perhaps unaware, playing the role of the exiled Napoleon. Napoleon said "An army marches on its stomach". Also, "Victory belongs to the most perservering." He also said, "Glory is fleeting but obscurity is forever." And "Until you spread your wings you'll have no idea how far you can fly." Bonaparte said, "If you want a thing done well do it yourself." And "Impossible is a word found in the dictionary of fools." All of those things were then challenged to him when the Papillion met him on the island and then escaped. When asked by Papillion (McQueen) 'What about escape?' Hoffman said 'Why it is impossible.' So, naturally, the Papillion, who had eluded French forces and Napoleon himself and had been captured once before, was really a man butterfly and it was only fitting that Bonaparte should find defeat and the lousy taste of his own words, or rather the simple fact that he wasn't as great a person as the Papillion when he was face to face with the very man he had spoken so derogatory and degrading about and that he wondered why he wasn't dead yet. That telling moment is when Hoffman exclaimed something like why I think that man is God when Papillion lept from atop the island to freedom. Napoleon, when fighting his enemy, had often said does he think he's God, well he's not God and various like things in his pursuit as Self proclaimed emporor of France. Here, in the year of the butterfly, all the transition of more utopian values and that better world are within reach. We finally see the best victories being won as we iron out the painful wrinkles of history and uphold the ideals we shouldn't have ever lost as human beings. Progress is the focal point and 2021 the firm grounds and foundation to move forward with. So it is good advice to remember don't get too lax, don't let your humanity slip away so that we don't fall into bad habits that lose the ground of the progress we make. Then we won't flirt with change or flirt with growth like a butterfly dances on the wind.

Humble beginnings
This is my first school. We had no alarm clocks! We had to rely on roosters to wake us up..and well..rooster can go on can make mistakes too! What woke us up was the consequences of being late. I grew up during the time when capital punishment was encouraged. Where teacher brandished sticks and whips to get their point across. Woe unto anyone who made a mistake arriving late to school!

10 Quotes To Help Repel The Thoughts Of Being Judged By Others
It's sad to think that so many people live their lives, making decisions, and executing actions, based on the need to try and impress others, all in a bid to avoid being judged and criticized. People feel this compulsive need to want to fit in with the crowd, to be accepted, respected, embraced, and liked by others. They simply can't handle the thought of not being liked by others, or being talked about negatively behind their back. In trying to avoid this, people will go out of their way to please others, even if that means altering their beliefs, characteristics, and personality. Basically, the need to be liked by others, and to be popular, is more important to them than being their true self, and living a life by their own design. What these people seem to either forget, or purposely choose not to acknowledge, is that there will always be people who will be nice to their face, yet be judging them, and gossiping about them, behind their back. Sadly, it's a common trait amongst the overwhelming majority of the human race. When we make decisions, and execute actions, in the best interest of our happiness, our goals, and our future, there will always be those who will judge and criticize us. Why? Because they may not be decisions or actions that those other people would be brave enough to do themselves, or they may not class them as normality to what society does. Some may express this criticism and judgement to our face, others may hide behind their mobile phone screen and type their thoughts, and then there are those who will basically bitch about us to others. If our decisions and actions don't please them, or if it perhaps inconveniences them, they become irritable and judgmental. Many people will say they have our best interest and welfare at heart, including our friends and loved ones, but their actions often suggest otherwise, because the only person who truly has our best interest and welfare at heart, is ourselves. Anyone who genuinely cares about our welfare and well-being would support us and encourage us to strive for greatness, not be opposing us. We know within our heart and mind, what decisions we need to make, and what actions we need to take, in order to create a future we desire, plus achieve our goals, and we need to remain committed to this. We can't allow the judgement and criticism of others to influence us against pursuing our goals, and creating a successful and fulfilling future for ourselves. We need to remove this need to fit in with others, and this desperation to be liked, because it's actually hurting our future. Our focus should be on our goals, our happiness, and what we desire for our future, not on how others are perceiving us. We have an obligation to help others in life, not to be pleasing them. There will be many people who won't like our decisions and actions, and as I said, these will include those closest to us, but they have their own life to live, just as we do ours. We shouldn't be living our life that is designed by others, and not by ourselves. It takes real courage and strength to face up to others when they discourage and oppose our decisions and actions, but we must have that resolve to repel those thoughts within our head, that they will stop liking or loving us, or that they are gossiping about us negatively to others. It will only end up highlighting just how much these people do truly love us, and have our best interest at heart. The funny thing is, once you achieve success, they will be the first ones to say they supported you throughout the journey, and want to celebrate in that success with you. Here are 10 quotes to help you maintain focus on the goals you want to achieve, and the future you want to create, whilst having the strength and courage to repel the judgement and criticism of others along the journey.

10 Quotes To Build Courage To Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone
We all want life to just run smoothly, without the need to concern ourselves over potential threats to our method of survival, or any impact to our routine, and what we know. We don't want no disruptions, or change, nor to encounter anything that involves risk to the way we live. We like the feeling of being in control, being knowledgeable, and biggest of all, we like having the feeling of having complete comfort and security. We will seek to avoid placing ourselves in situations and circumstances which make us feel awkward, or we feel a lack of control, and lacking in experience. That's it in a nutshell, we just prefer to live our life in the way we are accustomed to, are familiar with, and what makes us feel comfortable. Comfort is living in a state of physical ease, without constraint or pain, of course we all want that. Who wants to be constrained or feel pain, after all? The unfortunate thing about this though, is by living in such a way, we are denying ourselves some of the most wonderful blessings that life has to offer, such as success, happiness, and prosperity. It's a proven fact that true happiness, success, and personal growth, can only be achieved when we are willing to step out of our comfort zone. When we aren't challenging ourselves, but instead, we continue to remain stagnant in life, we become stale. Life constantly encourages us to learn, grow, develop, and mature, and what we often find is by continually resisting to step out of our comfort zone, life begins to start making things uncomfortable for us anyway. We get that subtle nudge that we need to be making changes, we need to be working harder, and we need to be taking some risks, in order to be continually enhancing our life. The longer we resist doing so, the more that life makes us feel more frustrated, agitated, and uncomfortable. We were all born to succeed and achieve greatness, but if we turn our back on working hard, pushing ourselves, and striving to achieve our goals, life will force those challenges upon us. Whilst we believe we are finding comfort and security in the way we live currently, in our routine, and in doing what we know, by refusing to act, take risks, and make changes, we are inviting discomfort into our lives anyway. Life is about progress and growth, not settling for mediocrity. How is there any happiness and success in living a life where we trot off to a job, for five days of the week, earning barely enough to adequately survive on, consuming most of our time in doing so, whilst we sacrifice such important aspects of life, such as family time, sleep, our happiness, our mental health, and our goals, in order to accommodate such a lifestyle? We get comfortable with it, because at least we are paying our bills, yet there is an opportunity to step out of that normality, and perhaps start a business, or try a different line of work, which has the potential for far greater rewards. Most of us don't do so however, because there is risk involved, and it will take us out of our comfort zone, and as a result, we deny ourselves of a beneficial opportunity for learning, growth, development, and worst of all, success. Here are 10 quotes to encourage us to be brave, and have the courage to take risks, make changes, and step out of our comfort zone, so we can grow and succeed in life.

Ever since I knew what materialistic things were, I also understood that we were poor. One pair of black sneakers for the school year, one uniform, which now as a mother I realized meant that my mother had to work harder at maintaining it, for us to look presentable. I have always been grateful, if you ask anyone who knows me, I can make a whole meal out of 5 bucks, less if I am being honest; I once had a dollar for dinner, I got two coffee cakes and a juice, until 8am the next day when I would be eating a hot breakfast at JobCorps. I am not scared of not having, I fear having and not being grateful for it, people forget that once they have nothing when they get everything. I woke up today, to my 3rd bonus this year, 2020, and the overwhelming feeling of emotional exhaustion hit me, it hit me hard, I cried like a baby, I cried because I feel grateful for all I have, but I also feel the deepest sense of needing to help those who have not been as fortunate as I have.
