How I Decided to Stop Asking For Permission
I am a dreamer, I strive to be the best I can be and I am always trying to find ways to improve myself and the world around me. I believe I have the potential to change the world with the gifts I have been blessed with. I didn't always believe this, and I didn't always act in line with my truest potential. I've always felt that I've been held back, whether by circumstance or by those I felt were superior to me in some way.

Slowing Down in 2020
I will preface this by saying it is difficult to revel in one's achievements when so much was lost this past year, but as my therapist would say, I should celebrate small victories. My thoughts go out to everyone who lost a loved one to the pandemic. This isn't a recap of 2020, nobody needs to be subjected to that, but if you're in the mood for that, Netflix's Death to 2020 does a great job at hitting you over the head with all the crazy that took place.

Indulge the Mind
Always starting off the new year with the classic "New Year; New Me" becomes more overwhelming as the years goes on. Trying different hobbies and looking at ways to continuously improve myself, only to stop two weeks into a new endeavor to never pick it back up again. The tiniest spark of interest catches flame, but quickly extinguishes after the hobby becomes a chore. "Not this time," I'm constantly telling myself, but something will happen or other interests would distract me from fully becoming indulged in just one hobby. Although, after a year of learning about myself and discovering why I'm constantly searching for something to preoccupy my time with, I found that it's okay to not stick to just one thing. Growing with my surroundings to find new ways to express myself, regardless of how many different ways I attempt, plants the seed to finding my passion.

Be MORE
When I was 6 I had dreams to be a doctor. I would gather stuffed animals on my bed and give them checkups. At 13 I was utterly obsessed with medical terminology; it was a new language to me. At 17 I was enrolled in advanced medical courses that would further fuel my love of the medical field. When life happened at 20, I stepped away from my dreams and tried to fit a mold I would never properly fit within. At 24 I stood on the steps of a community college (a far cry from my dreams of pre-med) and I started again with a child on my hip. At 25 I was derailed with the birth of my second child and was angry with myself for my inability to do it all on my own. At 26 I put my head down and refused to look up until it was done, medical terminology became my worst enemy as it sucked my nights away and medical jargon filled my every passing moment. At 27 I am a first-generation student with a degree and two children. I learned more about myself in the last 3 years than I had known my entire life.

It's A Matter Of Perspective
Perspective, we all have one. Each different to the next. Crafted, manipulated and created in adolescents. Your very own upbringing created the person you are. As the fleeting seconds pass by you come to realize that you are all alone.

What Resolution Really Means
Resolution. We throw this word around so often without really realizing the real meaning behind it. So many people use this word to change something they don’t like about themselves. According to the dictionary, there are six different definitions of this word. This will be a dissection of the different meanings of the word resolution and how they intertwine with each other to make having resolutions work for you. I will then share with you what my resolution is.

Masking Questions
Strange times make stranger people, and people strangers. Some of us have been hiding behind masks for years, and now that it's so commonplace, what once made us outcasts now unites us. They tell us these masks are for safety, but weren't the ones we were wearing before for safety, as well? Who will we be when they tell us that it's time to show our faces again? Will you remember? Will I? Do we even want to be those people again?

Cleaning House
It has been 22 days since I left my apartment complex. Covid is terrible in Los Angeles and the simplest tasks like going to the grocery store or pumping gas have been deemed as high risk of exposure. After all of the horror stories I have heard from friends, strangers, and family, I have chosen to minimize my chances of getting sick and completely went into hiding from the world.

Concussions
For 13 years I played the sport of American football. Mainly as a center and defensive tackle, so I took a lot of shots to the head. Every fall from the ages of 6 to 20 I played the sport I loved and studied more than anything else on this planet. Unfortunately participating in that sport also derailed my life in my early 20’s due to multiple and repeated undiagnosed concussions. I’m still dealing with some issues stemming from the concussions, but it’s improving by the day. Please if your son or daughter decides to play a contact sport, keep an eye on them. Do not let them continue if they’re not fit. I assure you that the hell that I’ve been put through isn’t worth it. Migraines, anxiety, depression, dark thoughts were all part and parcel in a normal day for me. Now at 26 I’m greatly improved and I couldn’t be more thankful, but I still have to be careful and be mindful of how my mind is reacting to stimuli.

Be Unapologetic About Your Self-Care
In our bid to live a peaceful, successful, and healthy life, there are some steps that we as individuals must intentionally take. To achieve all these, one has to prioritize self-care. Why is this so? Self-care is simply when you realize that you need to build and develop your present state. It encompasses positive and healthy physical and mental well-being. Having established what self-care is, one can go further to state that protecting one's energy is a core aspect of self-care and being unapologetic to external influences, especially the negative ones. Author and wellness consultant, Alex Elle, mentioned that: "Energy is contagious, positive and negative alike. I will forever be mindful of what and who I am allowing into my space."
