4 Times 5 Twice
4 Times 5 Twice In the beginning of 2020, I was a college student who was in a failing relationship clinging to a serving job I had held for 5 years at one of the busiest airports in the world, DFW. I was working at a restarant 40 hours a week and taking 5 classes. I was miserable. I was out of shape although fitness and health were my passion. I was emotionally crippled, me and my ex had put each other through the ringer. I was struggling with school, and as someone who held a 4.0 up through her Junior year, well that was the worst pill to swallow. I had completely lost sight of who I was, what mattered and what I wanted out of life. I was living to keep someone who didn’t even really know me and struggling to maintain a positive outlook.

Be Like Water
The clock strikes midnight at the end of the year, a time of celebratory cheer when people are enthusiastic to welcome in the new. Many will make a list of resolutions, fueled by this sense of optimism, intending to create positive change in their lives. The aspirations are beautiful, however, rarely do these ideas lead to any lasting improvement. In fact, the majority of people set themselves up for experiencing failure in the very first month of the year.

A Fresh Start
The year 2020 was, to put it blatantly, a complete waste of time that had forced the world to a halt with its disastrous impacts. With the unforgiving year of 2020 welcoming a new decade, it is safe to assume that people are skeptical about what 2021 has to offer. Rather than wait and see what the year 2021 brings me, I have decided to take control of my future and opportunities by deciding on several different focus areas I would like to improve on, and how I can improve them. My key areas of improvement are: reduce money spent by ditching fast fashion and adopting thrift shopping, critiquing the necessity of purchases, appreciating friends and family, and prioritising myself to find happiness from within.

A Carved Out Fresh Start
Twenty twenty was one of the hardest years for many of us, if not all of us. It started with such a promise of greatness and then turned on us like a great creeping monster. It came at us like a giant wrecking ball does tearing down a five story office building. It was catastrophic, completely obliterating, if not at least uprooting all areas of our lives.

How to DOMINATE your new year's resolutions. Top Story - February 2021.
Between the years 2015- 18, I had a lofty goal to lift x amount of weight before I graduated high school. I went from scrawny weakling to the "walking muscle" as my little brother liked to call me. In September 2018, I was a 155-pound athlete able to box squat 500lbs. That's 3.23 times my weight! I still remember that experience with precise detail. It's true what they say: "Champions are made when no one is watching."

Well, Well, Wellness. What Do We Have Here?
As an expert in wellness, I felt particularly compelled to write this piece. I have, after all, completed my skincare routine twice this week, considered going to the gym last night and currently have salad mix in my fridge. I follow wellness influencers, saving their tips and tricks for a time that I am not already nestled into my bed. I take multiple vitamins most days. I am up at 5 A.M. (note the “am” replacing “wake” in that sentence.) I clearly have my life together.

How to try your best and (maybe) not succeed
Failing is easy. Anybody can, and everybody will, sometime. Failing? Pfffttt. Been there, done that, many times. You know what's not so easy? Having tried your best, but then still failing. Now that sucks. You've put in the time and the effort to achieve whatever it is you set your mind to, but then what happens? After all the hopes and expectations, you fail.

Bygones: A New Year
It can be said that 2020 was the year that broke us all. In February of 2020, I was engaged, I was going to the gym three times a week, and I was doing my best to work two jobs and finish putting myself through college. By May I had gone down to one job, became single, struggled a bit with alcohol, and slowly brought myself back into the realm of mental stability, even getting a therapist to help me work through some of the issues I was going through, all the while, maintaining full-time enrollment through the Summer and Fall semesters. You could say that I threw myself into work of any kind to get my mind off of losing my engagement as a casualty to COVID-19, and also working longer hours due to higher demand for fast food, as I was working at both Pizza Hut and Sonic Drive-In at the start of 2020.

Love a little loneliness
I used to be that girl, the girl who was the life of the party, the girl who was loud and wild, who always had plans and made friends wherever she went. I enjoyed having something to do and having some company with me. I wasn't the type to be found eating at restaurants by myself or trying something new alone. I thought to be a successful adult, I always needed to be busy and push myself even though I might be exhausted.

From One Writer to Another
I started posting my stories and poems to Vocal.media about three years ago. That's a long stretch of time. And yet, in all that time, I've only posted around seventeen stories and poems. That is such a small number compared to the amount of posts other wonderful writers and creators have managed in a much shorter timespan. I bring this fact up not to belittle myself as a writer or to criticize anyone else who has had a Vocal account for as long as I have or even longer, and who has posted as much or even less than me. In fact, my intentions are quite the opposite. I only hope that by sharing some of my own struggles with posting to Vocal and dealing with "writer's block" that I can provide some sort of moral support for my fellow writers, and that if your goal for 2021 is to post more content to Vocal, or even for the love of all that is holy, just write more in general this year, then perhaps my insight into my own writing situation can inspire you.

2021
2020 was a difficult year for myself and my family. As it was for many others around the world. More specifically, we lost a house we made an offer on, we lost our wedding date and the backup date, we had friends hospitalized in the ICU, and heard the code blues over the halls of the hospital halls, and we all shed tears over the love and social interaction we were all missing. Finally, the biggest blow of all was my mother’s stage four cancer diagnosis the week before Christmas. 2020 was not a good year.
