My Vocal Experience...
I started writing on Vocal in late November of 2020. It was just something to do for fun and maybe an extra income. Since then I've written more consistently and have felt more creative. It's also gotten me thinking about writing, something that I've thought about doing over the years. I'm sure, especially after feeling like I needed to write something on more than one occasion, that I've posted some stinkers. After three months, I've learned a few things as I approach the one thousand reads mark.

Following my dreams
Most days I drive my 2007 caravan to pick up dirty laundry. Most people don't even give me a second glance, and the ones that do always make some kind of negative face. It wasn't always like this. I was a multimillionaire at one point in my life, however, I ran into trouble and spent 10, years in state prison. During that time I realized that being free was worth more than any amount of money. I put my mind to work earned two degrees and came home with a new outlook on life. It hasn't been easy I wake up and find a way to grind and make legitimate money every day. With my record I cannot drive an Uber®, Whole Foods® interviewed me 5 times and didn't hire me after a background check. At the moment I do laundry services and I make empanadas (meat-filled patties) just to survive. Sometimes I sit for hours with my little black book which includes years of planning and perfecting. If it fell into the wrong hands it would be the end of me and they would become financially well off. During gatherings with family and close friends, the question always arises so what are you planning this time. We know that you have some big plan to get rich quickly again. Let us in so we can help you get it done. Give us a hint. I just smile and say no secret plan just waiting for everything to click and fall into place. I continue to work while I keep thinking who can I get to join me for this master plan I have in my black book. It would take so much to pull this off. The right people, the right place, and timing. Now I'm so focused but to who do I approach without giving away too many details that they can go do it without me. Tonight I have to pitch my business idea in front of some VIPS from different businesses and corporations from around the world as part of an entrepreneur program I belong to. It is finally my turn to pitch and after the meet and greet I know that there are very powerful, rich, and influential individuals in the audience. I ask the program director if I can pitch a different idea that would be more appropriate for this crowd. They ask if I am prepared to switch at the last moment. I said it's now or never. I pull a USB drive from my ID lanyard with my PowerPoint slides. I began my pitch and after shaking off the jitters I pulled off one of the best presentations that this crowd had ever heard. All of the applause, questions, and praise brought me that feeling back from years ago like I was on top of the world. I did it my pitch just earned me a $20,000 prize for the best pitch. Oh, this is great I can lease a place for the restaurant... I couldn't stop daydreaming. Here is the man of the hour Ismael Diaz (snapped me right back to reality) they introduced me to a CEO of a huge investment firm. As we began to discuss my pitch she said "I will be honest with you. Yes, it was one of the best pitches that I've ever heard, but is it a realistic idea, are the numbers real, and will it make us money. I assured her that I have done research and comparisons with other similar businesses around the world, and with the right structure and team, we would make money. The CEO shook my hand and whispered these words if you can have a written business plan in my hands before I get on my flight tomorrow, we'll make a deal. While still shaking hands, I reached into my briefcase grabbed with a tight grip, and slowly pulled out my little black book. I replied with this book and your backing we will change the world. I was on that flight the next day and together we are arranging and fine-tuning my plan that will not only bring me financial security but will also change the world. As for my little black book, the original is in my safe. This will be passed down through my family as a reminder that hard work does pay off when you surround yourself with the right people.

Do a Dopamine Detox to Achieve Your Goals
Dopamine: The happy feeling your brain gets when it gets something it wants. We all have our vices that provide us dopamine, whether it be junk food, video games, smoking, drugs, talking too much, etc. None of these are inherently bad alone, but too much of a good thing is a bad thing, if it isn't productive or serving you. What is your quick release? What is that small thing you do that doesn't really add any value to your time and only exists for short term reward? The thing is, when we use short term rewards like eating a dozen cookies or gaming for eight hours too often, our mind loses sight of the bigger picture, our long term goals.

Controlling Your Triggers
We all have things and people that agitate us. They say whatever causes you to act out in frustration in any situation controls you. For example if you're in a good mood and someone says something offensive to you and you get upset. That person has power over you. They become your master. You've given them authority over your actions. I know it might feel good momentarily to curse someone out or even beating the breaks off someone and afterwards you might not want to admit it, but inside you don't feel right about how you handled the situation. You might not feel bad about cursing the individual out, because truth be told. It's a good chance they deserved it. You feel bad because you let yourself get to that point where you stooped down to their level. You know you're better than that, but that's the way emotions work though, it's so impulsive and can happen in the blink of an eye without an thought. Now medically speaking, they say an individual with damage to the pre-fontal cortex(region of the brain that moderates behavior)have a hard time controlling anger. Which maybe true, but I'm no doctor. I honestly think smoking marijuana can solve that problem. That's another story though. There's other ways you can control your triggers. The best superpower you can possess is the power to remain calm in any situation. You know it's actually people in the world that feed off their ability to make other people feel upset, because they're unhappy about their own life? A persons' perception of you is a reflection of how they feel about themselves. If you the type of person who see good in others despite what others may say. You're a person who feels good about oneself, because your perception of people is a mirror of how you feel about yourself. Do you know you can learn a lot about yourself through other people? Just think about it for a second. One can never see his/her faults, mishaps or wrongdoing, but we definitely can spot faults, mishaps and wrongdoing in other people. The only reason we can spot it in other people so easily is because how you feel about people is a mirror of how you feel about yourself. Example: You ever notice how you can so easily judge a person without ever having one conversation with them? Like you can say " Oh Stacey has a attitude problem". How you know Stacey has an attitude problem if you never spoke or had a conversation with Stacey? Your perception of Stacey is a reflection of you. You got a attitude problem(lol) In order for you to overcome your triggers the first step is to say" I Am the creator and fixer of my problems and also realise people that trigger you is only a reflection of something in you that you need to fix. We are responsible for how we react to situations in our lives. Nobody can decide how we deal with something, no matter what the situation is. The only thing that dictates our reaction to certain situations is fear. You have to walk in an understanding that fear is a choice like anything else in life. Decide not to fear the unexpected, meditate, speak daily affirmations, pray and let the universe work out the details. A lot of our problems are created in our own minds, based through media, television, politicians etc. If one was to un-attach themselves from negative manipulation and replace it positive persuasion. Your whole outlook on life would change. So whenever you're an a situation that triggers you or a person that triggers you. Say something that you're grateful for. I know it might seem odd if a person gets "slick" with you and instead of a "clapback" You say something like " I have two intelligent children". They gone look at you like you crazy, but what you just did was take positive control over the situation. Plus you just spoke blessings on your two children. You just knocked out two birds with one stone.
