The Colors of Emotion
When I was little, every ounce of my being was devoted to not dying and avoiding injury. Emotion was grey. A long rainbow of grey. Fear is grey. Happiness is cool grey 2 (CG), because it’s lighter, but there’s always a risk that my smile wasn’t the right smile, my thank you wasn’t the right thank you, or they just might want to do something else and nothing I could say or do had any impact on what they’d do. I was kind of a CG1 color, just so barely there that people might forget I was around.

The Treasure Within
The best gift I ever received was a notebook. It was my last day of school and I was awarded with perfect attendance and straight A’s. My parents were so damn proud but to be honest I was humiliated. I did not have many friends and spent most of my time in class alone. Teachers loved me because I followed the rules and never acted out. The other kids didn’t talk to me because I sat quietly and gave the impression I didn’t want to talk.

No One Is Perfect
The truth of the matter is that we’re all broken or have been broken before. Yes every single one of us, but broken crayons still color, right? Some heal quickly while it takes others half their life or maybe their whole life trying to heal. Some want to heal and are easily willing to try anything while others want to but don’t know how to. Then there are the ones who know they need to heal, but rather settle because they’re scared to. There’s also the ones who don’t see that they need to heal or they don’t like getting called out having to admit that they need in-fact need to. There’s those that aware that they need to heal but don’t bother trying so they make excuses to be the way they are.

Little Black Book
Dragging my tired hungry body trying to find a place to sleep for the night, it is winter time the temperature will fall below zero haven’t had a decent meal in three days pushed my self for any hope. Being framed, getting kicked out of both job and home no savings left so here I am homeless. My loved ones have turned their backs on me, its of no use crying I have accepted my fate and now know survival is the most important thing in this cruel world.

Stop letting others choose your destination!!!
When I was in my mid-20's, I was barely making it raising 3 children with little to no financial help from their father. I was on public assistance and I remember when I had to add water to the laundry detergent and milk to make it last another week. Not to mention the numerous nights I went to bed hungry so they could eat. Luckily, I was able to get a few minimum wage jobs here and there before and during earning my degrees.

The Stars and I- Trying to Find Myself
The Beginning I was lost for a long time. Growing up in a turbulent and unstable environment can do that to a person. Instability, it takes energy away from being able to form as a person and turns your focus towards surviving. Instead of looking for hobbies, interests, and friends, I waited, sometimes impatiently, for the next fight or the next big move. Neither, high school nor college, were the best years of my life because I was too busy being lost. When college came along, all of a sudden, I went from being a lost teenager to an adult struggling to grapple through new expectations while still trying to figure out who I was as a person. That was how I ended up spending two torturous years pursuing a career I did not like and closing myself up completely to the outside world, then finally reaching my bottom and seeking out help.

We are so Busy Thinking about ourselves, we Forget who we are
My dear friend, a multiple Ph.D., has been such an inspiration. He has changed the way I think. He has shown me how to allow myself to be who I truly am. It has not been an easy journey, and as this journey continues, it will not be any less complicated. I am, however, profoundly appreciative, and grateful to know him.
