The Power of the Written Word
It was golden hour and Nora was getting restless. She blew a strand of her not quite straight, not quite curly honey colored hair out of her eyes as she sunk into the plushy love seat in the guest room at her grandmother’s house. The shadows of the paned windows made squares of orange light on her white hoodie. At least it was white at some point, now it was dull grey with faded doodles Nora had drawn with various types of pens when she was bored. It was her favorite. She wore blue jeans with one knee poking out with a sharpie drawn smiley face. She looked over at Lilly, who was perfectly content sitting on the four poster bed with a book.

A New Beginning
“It is a pleasure to finally meet you in person, Mr Gladieu. Your first articles are quite well-received, as my colleague, Dr. Feroe, tells me.” The lady in the middle of the panel sitting opposite the young man had a reputation. A former Crown prosecutor, the Associate Minister was a behemoth in discussions. The government had ran, and won, on a platform of job creation and a revival of industry. The area's fortunes would be due to her expert and proven ability. And, now, at this review, she would successfully slough another request. Which is why she was so formidable at her job, and baleful to her opponents.

A Time of Manifestation
Rue! I heard my grandmother Marley calling out for me. Yes, grandma what is it? Oh, nothing I just wanted to see your face. I have not seen you all day you. Agreeing I thought to myself yes because I was sort of not in the mood to be bothered. So, what do you and papa have planned for the day? We are going to lunch first and then hanging out at the senior center. Going to whoop them in some cards and dominoes I see. I looked across the room to where she was sitting in her faded brown rocking chair, today she wore a bright almost lime green blouse with a pink scarf. My grandmother had a peculiar sense of taste in fashion I smiled. she smiled back. Laying across the sofa I sighed and spoke, grandma I had the weirdest dream last night. I had a dream that I won the lottery I had five out of the six numbers and I won twenty thousand dollars. It felt crazy real grandma, I could even remember the numbers I have them written in my phone. Pulling my phone out and looking at the screen I started calling out the numbers from my dream. Nine, thirty-six, forty-two, twelve, twenty-one, nineteen. When she did not say anything I glanced over at her. Grandma why are you looking at me like that? Marley sat there looking as if in deep thought. Sweetie you might not believe me, but I had the exact same dream. Grandma do not make fun of me. No, really Rue the only difference was that it was one of the men family who won and not you. Are you just saying that to me grandma? No child, I had a similar dream. If I were you, I would go and play the lottery. Starting at her from the side I told her I would consider going to play. I am serious Rue go and play, there is a reason we both had similar dreams. What would you do with a big amount of money like that? Laughing her off I heard myself saying I don’t know grandma before changing the subject. I sat speaking with my grandma about forty-five minutes longer before I heard my papa making his way downstairs so that they could leave. Those two are as thick as thieves you would not find one without the other. Thinking to myself about how cute they are together. her thr outspoken spunky personality and him the mellow fellow as I liked to say. They are my heart and soul and if it were not for them, I believe my life would probably be much different than what it is today they had been there for me when I had no one else in my corner. I wanted to make them proud and was trying my hardest to do so, but I had to admit to myself that I stumbled more than necessary, and I knew that it frustrated them that she had always switched the direction she wanted her life to go in. It did not matter because every moment along the way had been encouraging.

Building a Future
Philosopher Jidda Krishnamurti once said “the ability to observe without evaluation is the highest form of intelligence”. But don’t take his word for it. Krishnamurti wasn’t the first to acknowledge this, merely the first to put it on paper. Still, someone deserves the credit.

Paradise Falls
Paradise Falls When I first saw the black book in the mail, I didn’t know what I was getting. All I saw was the twenty thousand dollars buried in the coffin. I thought about the dollars pouring over me, but I didn’t know what it would cost. That it would cost me everything. I frantically flipped through the black book pages and I read the rules. Their were Eight rules I had to fallow to keep the money or id lose my life. The first rule is to quit your job. The second rule was to give up your dreams. The third rule was to make new ones for a year. The fourth was to find happiness every day. The fifth was to not tell anyone about the book as it was being written. The sixth rules was to save six people. Seven was to touch a cloud. Eighth was the hardest, I had to make a masterpiece. I thought deeply on this, how I could make a masterpiece. The premise felt impossible and I felt the gravity of the situation immediately like a fissure pulling me in. I knew there was only thing I possibly could do to make a masterpiece. I looked over to my laptop in the left corner of the room. As I walked over and grabbed it, it felt heavier like Mjolnir. It was like God putting his hand on my shoulder and showing him the way. I felt stupid trying to win anything. I had never won anything before. I couldn’t help but to at least put my fears and anxiety aside and try to fix my life. By typing this story I would slowly becoming who I wanted to be. Someone I thought I could never be. If I completed this list I could keep all of the money but if I didn’t Ieould lose it all. I frantically started to work on this Black Book. I already had so many projects so many things I needed to do. My life was a dumpster on fire and it felt that way constantly. I hoped that this would be the end of that. I put my fingers to the keys and I began to play my symphony.

Success, Dreams?
The neck of the champagne bottle clinked against the lip of the glass as the stream of bubbling gold poured from its mouth, filling the skinny flute full of fizzling foam. Randal pulled his arm back for a moment as the foam dissipated, a smile upon his greedy face all the while, and then reached back to fill both glasses generously.
