A Moment in Time
I am the fog. When I come, I lay me down– just one small particle of the universe next to another small particle of the universe, and on and on– until I blanket the world about me in a soft milky haze; all that exists is this moment in time, here, and now. I am the everything and the nothing; I am all that was, all that is, and all that ever will be. I am the emptiness that is possibility. I am the reminder to use what you have available to you, as I give you limited trees, dark and fading against the endlessness that is me, and a steady ground with which you may lay your weary head. I am what gives the falling leaf that spirals down towards you significance as you look out into the vastness that is me. I am what takes your big world, and carefully molds it into a much smaller, much more manageable world. I am what allows you to hold your breath while you breathe; to pause life, as life surges on about you. I watch you—and you, watch me.

The Message
Josh sat at his dining table trying to make sense of his latest frustrations. He poured into his journal, the words coming out a sloppy mess. As he began to re-read it all of course it sounded ridiculous to be so worked up about it. He started to see some humor in his dad making the usual idiotic comments about his weight and occupation. He kicked himself for letting it get under his skin, what did it matter his dad’s opinion? ‘I am allowed to have my own values and live my own life!’ He said to himself. He started a new page in the little black book.

Afterimage
I don’t remember how the war began, but I remember how it ended. Some of the memories, I’m sure, are just photographs really, brought to life by the strength and strangeness of time: the sepia-toned ticker tape, the grinning grenadiers, the forelocked sailors in their polished shoes. Among these, only one I know to be completely authentic. It’s of my mother, reading a telegram in the kitchen one morning, in the soft light of the curtains.

Expect a miracle
Expect a Miracle I was born with my mother’s pain, so I lived on borrowed emotions, which usually ran particularly low. It’s unnatural to be this spent. But that’s the thing with generational trauma. It makes a mess of your insides, an overturned trunk of clothes in your room and a crooked painting with no one around to help you or will you to fix it. My back hurt with the weight of today. Maybe because it was Monday and I had a 15-page paper due, with only one page typed, or because it was the anniversary of my mother’s death.

A Dream Realized
Hugh was standing there looking out the window from the 25th floor a view that almost every new employee had looked out and exclaimed how great the view was and how much they were looking forward to working there, seeing the London skyline as it spread out from the Thames. They all thought it was great for the first month, until their soul started slipping away into those rectangular vortices filled with spreadsheets, charts and e-mails that worked to slowly replace the dreams and goals that once had filled them.

Little Black Book
With tears still slowing running down her cheeks, Margaret walked away from the graveside burial of her grandmother with a package in her black gloved hands. One of her aunts handed it to her just after the ceremony was over. Her hands were still shaking a bit and she did not have the heart to open it with so many other people around, so she just stared at her grandmother’s writing on the front. For my dearest Margaret with love.

Every Penny Counts
Modest Desires, a Deserving Beauty 2015 is a great year to vast in the ALOHA city of Honolulu. Hawaiian culture is at its peak of intermingling ripeness. The scene is saturated with a wide variety of fast-food chains where celebrity concerts are periodically held at the nationally recognized American football stadium. Although there`s a mixture of mingling cultures cohabitating here, the sound of ukulele struts sound across beach sands louder than any portable radio. The air is crisp and gives host to constant traffic of passenger planes. The tourist-filled behemoths seem to fly unreasonably low and oddly close enough for the logos on their tails to be easily identified. Small and big motor vehicle types frequent [both] the newly paved streets and daintily paved pathways. Most of the vehicles in this area host engines that putt-putt along slightly louder than when they rolled off their mainland assembly lines. KALUA PORK is pork that has been slow roasted under banana leaves left underground. It contends with CHICKEN KATSU pairing with sticky rice. Both are among the most desired dishes on local dining tables.
