Lucky Jezza
Lucky Jezza Jeremy had been to school at Eton, and then got a 3rd from Oxford. Perhaps it was attention deficit disorder, or his heavy drinking but, despite his background, he hadn’t made much of his life. He preferred instead to play the geezer, called himself Jezza and all his work colleagues ‘mate’. Jezza was a down-with-the-people kind of guy.

Written in the Stars
After spending a whole year feeling stuck in one place I decided to search for more. I never thought that meant I would find something so physical and so soon. I have never been into planning my days, but one surprisingly productive afternoon I had the time and the motivation to be even more productive. My new roller skates I had dreamed about for two years just came in the mail so I decided to break them in by going to the parking deck with the best view of my city. It was there that I found something that would change my destiny forever. After parking and building up the courage to skate out of my front seat, some movement across the lot startled me. A bright orange cat waltzing out of a bag of trash like it just had the best meal of its 9th life. The cat was what that caught my eye, but it was something else that caught my attention. A little black book with “the stars” written in a darker black ink on the front. My first thought was “what is this” and my second was “i have to have it”. After picking it up and very minimal investigation I came to the conclusion that it was supposed to be thrown in the dumpster it sat next to, but never made it. I decided to keep it. This was a decision I would later thank myself for.

The grass was like ice and frozen. The beautiful sun was blinding me. I am Spectra, but my real name is Anastasia King. Yes, King like Martin Luther King, one of the greatest American leaders ever!

The Weeds
Coyotes had been up on High Ridge Drive the last couple nights. They were tracking something. My uncle used to talk about how some winters they would form larger packs and stalk unusual prey. Talk down at the farm co-op sometimes turned to stories of savage attacks that seemed to happen when certain circumstances coalesced. The weather, the moon, the aurora borealis, the early season departure of the geese, I never listened to it much. Old Will Drucker often told of the time during The Great Depression a five year old girl had been killed by a pack down by Motrin's Mill. Although not everyone had believed it was the coyotes that got her.
