Enter the Void
Nature is a compass. A book told me that. Plants grow towards the light – phototropism – therefore, if the Sun rises on the East, trees bend to that direction. I think, I ought to check whether the willow tree is tending towards the light when I finish in the library. For the following few hours, I continue to read. More reading equates to more knowledge. With extended knowledge, I ensure everything I desire. I want to finish every book in the library.

No Need For Greed
Lexi woke up with a start and glanced at the clock. How could it be morning already? She heard her older son laughing in his room so that was a good sign, at least he was already up. Some mornings it was a real job to get him out of bed. She took a moment to see if she could hear her other son and sure enough the delightful theme song of his favorite phone game came wafting out of his room. She took a quick moment to check her emails and messages and seeing nothing of real importance, shook the sleep away as best as she could and headed to the bathroom.

A JERSEY JAMOKE
It was 1:32 am E.S.T, September, 9th, 1992. It was my Dad’s 54th birthday. I’d see him in Jersey in about 8 hours if I was lucky. I had just finished eating my pork roll and cheese breakfast croissant, with classic Taylor Ham as the prime actor, at the Court Square Diner on 23rd Street, Long Island City, NY. Local Queens to all you discerning folk looking for a classic East Coast diner grub grab at the most unsavory of hours, as well as some cool cool coolio people eye watching vibes you can’t get anywhere else at that hour. A few blocks down from Astoria. But that didn’t matter too much in my state of mind. You’d be amazed at the amount of wild and wackazapple energy you’d find on any given occasion in NYC, especially when that occasion enlists the aid of the twilight hours between midnight and 6 am just across the East River from “The City That Never Sleeps”. I had just come off a 7 hour bender and I was burning hard and to the point.

Favor in The Odds
March is when it all started. I was blessed with the opportunity to start my dream career, as Lead Supervisor of a Lash Studio. I was given the a little black book; which resembled a purse to me being that it had side pockets. I was told to log notes and write down innovative ideas to increase productivity. Also, I was given the company credit card to use as I saw fit; as long as it was used for the advancement of the business. Christine my direct supervisor jokingly said... “Just don’t go spending $3k on it. Run all purchases by me first.” She was someone I admired, so I didn’t have any problem working under her leadership. That next week I hit the ground running. I was eager to prove to myself and everyone I deserved my new role. Days into weeks, turned into months; sales/productivity soared. I had introduced new incentives that would increase Staff morale. Things were looking up. Even the other studios adopted my ideas.

The Boy Who Lost Millions
Hobo. H-o-b-o. Never a nice word, at least the way I’ve heard it. People passing by me on the road muttering under their breaths. My story is famous, and no one will ever let me forget it. The worst part is, it didn’t have to be this way. One small change could alter my entire world.

Maxwell
Chapter One - A home for one. The social issues surrounding gender always baffled Maxwell. Hir was non-binary and that had led to a complicated childhood and, in hir 20s and 30s, the bouncing around of wardrobe styles and the use (or lack of) make-up lessened social interactions on more than one occasion. Maxwell could not grasp what was appropriate behavior and gradually became more isolated.

The power of the Smile
Look. I'm going to tell you a little known fact about something everyone seems to know but seldom ever does. Smile. It's one of the simplest ways to bring light to your day, and, in the process, make the recipient feel special. That smile was for them and them only.

The Beholder
Frank peaked through the chink in the curtains at the busy street, trying to get as panoramic a view as possible without twitching the cloth. He'd give it another few minutes to be safe then he'd have to run to Chadwick's and hope Harry was still there.

Maybe she's born with it,
We've all seen them: the images, quizzes, and memes promising to give us some clarity or justification for who we are and why we are that way based on one thing alone: our Zodiac sign. Somehow, even though we've seen a million+1 of these doodles and depictions, we're still sucked into another one when it's presented. We want to see ourselves or see how others perceive us.
