They can help you gain understanding and insight. Self-help books are designed to help you gain insight and understanding into the way you think and feel. They will often examine different factors that may be holding you back, such as your beliefs and childhood experiences. They may also help you to develop new skills and learn healthier ways of coping with negative emotions and situations. The more insight you have into yourself and the way you think and feel, the easier it will be to overcome your fears and go for what you want. You may not necessarily be able to change the fact that you have a particular fear or phobia, but you can change the way you react to it so that it’s no longer such a limiting factor in your life.

Josh AfumPublished 2 years ago in MotivationCloudy Days
I miss the sunshine on a rainy day, I miss seeing the leaves blow away. If you took a vote of the weather most people prefer, sunny weather. The rain serves it's purpose and has equal value, so why do most people say, I can do without the rain. I've heard people say, the rain gives them the blues and makes them sad. The rain isn't the cause of their problems, those started long before the clouds rolled in. It started when you were over looked for that promotion at work and it was given to the office suck up. It didn't matter that you always came in 30 minutes early, while they're always 30 minutes late. Or the fact that, your desk is flawless and theirs looks like a hurricane. Or maybe it was the day, your supervisor asked you to run and errand, but you had other plans. The suck up was in listening distance, just to take your place. Despite the fact that your always, the one taking notes at the office meetings and the suck up is always asleep. After the meeting is over they ask, what was the meeting about. And because your that person, you give them your notes. Day in and day out, you feel invisible. Does your work matter of course it does, without it the suck up won't get their next promotion. So the day comes and you finally tell your supervisior your true feelings. The reply you get, isn't what you expect. However that's just it, you really only want the recognition you deserve, but the suck up stole your spot light. Now they got the cushy office with the window view and your stuck at the community desk, next to the broom closet. Does this sound like your life? Well it was mine for 5 years, until I told my supervisor these words one day. "From now own, my pay will reflect my work". Later that day, my supervisor asked me what did I mean. My answer was, "I go over and beyond to do my job and get little praise or reward. On the other hand the office suck up, comes late and leaves early and is praised in our monthly meetings. Why should I follow policy and procedure, when the suck up doesn't even follow the code of conduct or respect any office rules. Most days I work through lunch, yet the suck up takes a 2 hour lunch break and has done so for months." It's then the supervisor looks at me and says, "What do you mean 2 hour lunch breaks. "You've known this all this time and said nothing,". My reply was, "I'm not the boss, nor am I their supervisor, I'm just an employee." I told my supervisor, "Your suck up, is an idiot." And what did my supervisior say in their defense, "They have brilliant ideas and do fantastic work." My supervisor said "We've been friends for several years and, I love you like family." So,I told my supervisor,"What you've shown me isn't love. You don't love me, you love what I can do." My supervisior got heated and yelled, "That's not true!" "Well time will tell," I replied. "Your suck ups work, is my work. Your suck ups idea, are my ideas." I reached in my pocket and pulled out a cherry lollipop and place it on her desk. "What's this my supervisor," asked. I replied, " A sucker", which I choose to no longer be." Immediately I felt a sense of relief come over me, my tension headache now gone, my shoulders no longer stiff. I walked to the breakroom and made me a fresh cup of coffee,I then sat at my desk as I sipped from my cup. I then made a sign an placed it on my desk top it read, "Sorry I missed you, back in 15 minutes gone for a stroll in the park." I really loved that stroll and I now take one everyday I'm at work. My advice, take time for yourself and know your worth. Don't accept, the unacceptable. Don't let life pass you by, unless you've given it permission.
