In the Pursuit Of... Purpose

When we were children we were asked one question consistently throughout the years: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Depending on your parents and their parenting style, this would often be followed up by their vision of what you are 'supposed' to become according to their lack of imagination or failed dreams, or in most cases, what the neighbours might be most envious of. From a young age we instill in children the need to become someone admirable in the community. but this is usually linked to material worth and social standing. As a result we develop a need for validation from outside forces when it comes to making the biggest decisions of our lives at a time when we really don't need to be making massive commitments to things that we probably don't even have the passion or drive to do. In a lot of cases the driving force behind big decisions around being lawyers or doctors or anything deemed socially 'important' often derives from a place of fear... often, not all the time. Should we really be allowing fear to be the driving force when it comes to career choices?

A tree does not ask the soil what its purpose is on this planet. It grows, anchors its roots and not only does it present as something pretty to look at, but it also has so many roles including avoiding soil erosion, moderating the climate, remove carbon dioxide from the environment, providing shade and shelter for all that need it etc. We could go on listing all the qualities and functions that trees 'bring to the table,' but at this point you see where we are heading with this. Human beings are also multi dimensional beings who when left to thrive in their purpose produce the most astonishing results. The easiest examples are those of artists that have the freedom to express themselves fully in their chosen medium. Businessmen and women who have a passion for what they do are often not only the most successful but also the ones most likely to touch and affect the lives of so many people.

Yeah, that's cool and all but what is MY Purpose cause these bills are not going to pay themselves thought all of us at some point. How do I find my purpose? The answer is actually a lot simpler than we realise. Sit down, get ready to be moved without having to pay a single penny towards this earth-shattering discovery. In order to realise your true potential, your true purpose, your calling... All you have to do is get to know yourself.

It is literary that simple and that complicated at the same time. Getting to know yourself means peeling away those false identities that have been assigned by everyone else. Maybe your parents told you that you must be a doctor and now here you are a fully grown adult completely disappointed with yourself because you work in a call centre that you absolutely hate. Shredding these identities/tags/labels others have placed on you allows you to strip back down to the trauma; when you work past the trauma you begin to heal your inner child and your inner self... from that healing emerges a beautiful flower that will blossom when the time is right for all to admire.

Figuring out your purpose and accepting yourself for who you really are is the step to true freedom and living an authentic, joyful life.
