Hallowed Be - A Mikeydred October 2026 Dollar Prompt For All Vocal Creators

Introduction

October gets its name from the Latin word octo, which means "eight".

The Roman Calendar

• The early Roman calendar had only ten months instead of twelve.

• The year started in March, making October the eighth month in the sequence.

• September, November, and December were also named for their numerical positions (seven, nine, and ten).

Shift to the 12-Month Year

• Later, the Romans added January and February to the beginning of the calendar.

• This shift moved October to the tenth position.

• The original numerical name stayed the same even after attempts by Roman emperors to rename the month after themselves.

A lot of creators and friends have shown their support for these challenges so I won't let them down.

Every month, we set prompts in the Vocal Social Society. We offer a $1 tip to five random creators who take part, asking them to share their stories in the comments and on the group thread.

This is not official, and usually after each one, I say that's it, and I always think people have had enough of me, but people tell me how much they look forward to my challenges, so I will keep doing them as long as I get responses.

So What's Gonna Happen This Time?

Please write a poem or story related to this month of October or a piece inspired by the music. Althoughh I have listed some October days, there are a lot more than that to choose from. It seems to me now that every day is National or World something day, and that is no bad thing.

I will write a piece or two myself and include them, but that won't be classed as an entry. A couple of my examples are older pieces that fit into the rough challenge criteria.
