Being Wary Of What Change Means In Reality
The Psychological Trick Used To Convince You To Make Decisions That Harm You

Written by a human, for humans, always.
Is life perfect?
Of course not.
Anyone who claims it is perfect is lying.
In the real world...
There are problems.
There always have been problems.
There always will be problems.
Nothing created by a man has ever been, nor will ever be, perfect.
It is simply how life is.
At the same time...
Some things may be bad...
And other things may be worse...
And...
We would all like things to develop over time toward something better.
But here is a question we should ask...
Better for who?
See...
Everything around us is going to have problems...
So, no matter what we look at...
We can see reasons that may exist for a desire for change.
Our hope is that things will become better.
But...
This hope needs to be based in reality...
And this hope is also where most people are found to have a weak point...
That can be exploited and used against them...
To put their voice and weight behind something that will actually become harmful to themselves.
I see it all the time in people's lives.
But how does this happen to us?
There are a few tactics that are utilized to convince us of things that are not true.
For instance...
What we focus on, we see more of.
It is a human psychological truth that may actually convince us of something false in reality.
So...
If someone wants you to commit to change that will harm you but benefit them...
An easy tactic is to put a lot of focus on two areas...
Only the bad things that currently exist...
And the perception of good things that a change could bring.
If you "only" focus on these things...
You will begin to believe...
Even if it is completely false...
That what you have is significantly worse...
And what is being promised is significantly better...
Because those are the only places the focus is being put.
Now, this may not be true at all.
Say there are two things...
The current has seven good things going for it, and three bad things against it.
The proposed change in reality has three good things going for it, and seven bad things against it.
Objectively...
The current thing is better than the proposed change.
But...
If I use social media and the news, as an example, to put fifty pieces of content out that "only" focus on the three bad things of the current...
And I put three hundred pieces of content out that "only" focus on the three good things of the proposed change...
We begin to subconsciously "believe" that the ratio is closer to what we are seeing...
That the proposed change is likely six times better than the current thing...
And then we subconsciously do reverse napkin math...
To think that the current thing is likely closer to nine things that are bad, with only one good thing...
While the new proposed change will be closer to only four things that are bad, with six things that are good.
We subconsciously justify that neither system will be "perfect"...
But because we "see" so much positive about the proposed change, we incorrectly assume that it must be "much" better.
So...
How do we avoid falling into this trap?
We have to stop taking things at face value.
If something different sounds extremely good in comparison to what is current...
There is a high likelihood you're being manipulated.
Now, in this context, manipulation does not "inherently" mean bad...
But frequently it leans in more negative directions.
We also have to ask a different question...
If we are "seeing" only good with the new proposed change...
We have to also "assume" that there will be problems and start asking what those problems could be.
We also have to do the opposite.
If we are "seeing" only bad things with what is current...
We have to also "assume" that there are some good things, and we need to start asking what those positive things are in reality.
This allows us to weigh the real evidence against each other.
Also...
We need to verify with history.
Often...
The proposed "changes" are things that have been done at some other point in history.
Truly "new" things are very rare in our world.
So...
We can go back through history and look at what has been done, said, researched, verified, tested, and more.
If you find that throughout history...
There is something similar that has been done...
And there is a consistent result...
That is evidence that you need to consider closely.
If something "new" is being proposed that "sounds" really good...
But it has been tested over and over, and the results have been poor, or worse...
There may be a reason.
If something current has been focused on and made to "sound" really bad...
But it has been tested over and over, and the results have been generally positive (but not perfect)...
There may be a reason.
If someone claims they are going to make change...
And history shows that they have not been effective at making that change...
There may be a reason.
Here is where you need to be most careful, though...
If someone is proposing something different...
And they want you to eliminate "everything" about what is current...
You should be very wary.
History has shown that in the times of the greatest upheaval...
The most likely result is chaos...
And from that chaos, rarely does anything positive occur.
Far more often...
People with ill intentions toward others use the chaos to their advantage...
To give themselves more power at the "expense" of others.
So anytime others are trying to convince you to commit to a complete overhaul...
The most likely explanation is that their intentions are ill toward the majority.
What usually brings about more positive changes...
Is not extreme change...
But slow and calculated decisions that are weighed against real evidence that is supported with data, logic, and history...
That recognize real problems that currently exist...
And want to improve upon what is working...
Instead of throwing everything out.
Be wary of what change means in reality...
Not all change is positive...
And there are many people who are more than willing to convince you to make choices that will harm you for their benefit.
