A Trademark Of True Mastery Of A Skill
A Word On Inspiration

Written by a human, for humans, always.
Many people believe that they are excellent at something...
Even a master at it.
But...
Are they really?
If you look at the data...
There are many people who are decent at what they do...
Few who are recognized as excellent...
And fewer still who are accepted as true masters of what they do.
Now...
It does not mean that those who have talent "couldn't" become masters...
Or someday even Sages....
But it does mean that they are not there yet...
And many of them are delusional about how close they are to mastery currently.
So...
What is a trademark of true mastery of a skill?
Can you do it...
Successfully and with fantastic results...
Even when you lack any inspiration?
This is often a major dividing line between those who have talent and those who are recognized for their talent.
The individual who can perform at extreme levels without inspiration...
Will always be recognized as a master.
Now...
Do not get me wrong here...
When inspiration strikes, it can be a powerful force...
And people have demonstrated amazing things when they combine talent with inspiration.
But here's the problem...
Inspiration will not always be there.
Vastly more often, you will find that you lack any inspiration whatsoever.
The true master can perform at great levels...
Consistently...
Even when there is no inspiration.
Take any industry and look closely.
There will be individuals who are one-hit-wonders...
And those who are consistently recognized as one of the best.
What happened to the one-hit-wonders?
They proved that they had some sort of skill.
It would not be considered a "wonder" if they lacked skill.
So why did they not have more hits?
They lacked inspiration...
And because that is what they relied on...
They disappeared when inspiration did not return in time to keep their momentum going.
On the other hand...
Those who are consistently recognized over and over again...
Are usually not inspired.
They are extremely talented...
Know how to perform their skill to the highest levels...
And have figured out how to do it under any circumstance.
Because inspiration is so fickle...
For everybody...
(Anyone who claims to always be inspired is lying, either to sell something that they cannot truly deliver or because they are afraid that lacking inspiration makes them less-than at what they do.)
The master has to discover how to continue to perform over and over again...
Even though inspiration is out of sight.
What ends up happening...
Is that the person who relies on inspiration ends up struggling to get seen...
Because they cannot find inspiration consistently enough to be seen...
Causing them to lack any momentum in their lives.
But the master who performs without inspiration...
Is able to create consistency...
Which builds up momentum for getting recognized for that skill...
Making them the go-to for that skill when somebody needs it to get done.
Especially in today's world...
Things come and go so quickly...
Trends are here and dead by tomorrow...
That no one has time to wait for a talented person who relies on inspiration.
Truly...
They will take someone sub-par who can perform under any circumstance over someone deeply talented who relies on inspiration.
Then...
That "sub-par" person will use their skills so consistently and build up so much momentum...
They will actually "become" more talented than the individual who "was" deeply talented but failed to use their skills consistently and therefore loses them.
That is how skills work...
They either develop over time, or decay over time.
If they get used, they can develop.
If you wait for inspiration...
Those skills will decay in the long droughts.
Inspiration is great when you have it...
But do not think that the inspiration is what makes you become masterful at something.
Inspiration just adds fuel to whatever fire you have built with your skills.
If the fire you have is tiny...
The inspiration will make it just a tiny bit bigger.
But if the fire you have is a gigantic bonfire...
Then adding inspiration could suddenly change everything in terms of recognition...
And...
When the inspiration disappears again...
You will be able to continue to keep the bonfire going as a master.
