A Heartwarming Gesture

Once, amidst the hurried sirens tearing through the air, a sudden announcement echoed from the trauma center's microphone at a government hospital. "Attention, please. The attendants of the patient in Emergency Bed Number Three, kindly proceed to the gate immediately."

A couple of minutes later, the mic buzzed again, "Attention, please. The attendants of the patient in Emergency Bed Number Three, please reach the gate without delay."

After a brief pause, the mic fell silent for what seemed like a long while. Around fifteen minutes later, a young man rushed to the emergency gate and asked the security guard why there were repeated announcements for the patient in Bed Number Three.

Upon investigation, the guard found a nurse on duty in the emergency ward. She angrily confronted the young man, "Foolish person, your father is dying, and you were missing? Hurry to the blood bank, donate two units of blood for your father, arrange for O-negative blood immediately!"

The young man, panting, sprinted with hurricane speed to the blood bank. Holding a bag of blood, he returned as quickly as possible. Handing the blood bag to the nurse, he could only manage to say, "Sorry, ma'am. If there was any delay, but how is my father now?"

The nurse, in a hurry, replied, "His condition is critical, a lot of blood has been lost. Currently, we can't say anything."

With the blood bag in her hands, the nurse hurriedly started administering it to an elderly patient severely injured in a road accident.

After a while, the nurse came out, rushing towards the young man, "Look, your uncle, he's here. You were worried about him, right?" She gently placed an oxygen mask on the elderly man lying on the bed.

Before the elderly man's eyes could express relief, he repeated his words to the nurse several times.

Despite the serious injuries and pain from the road accident, the elderly man, sensing someone near, felt the presence of the young man beside his bed before his eyelids fluttered.

Now, the young man extended his hand gently towards those frail hands.

After that, he carefully held the elderly hands in his strong fingers, conveying the deep emotion, "I'm here with you, right beside you."

In these touching moments, the young man reached out to the old man with his love and affection. After this emotionally charged encounter, the young man approached the bedside, allowing the elderly hands to rest in his firm grip. Despite the noisy atmosphere of the emergency ward, the young man remained there throughout the night.

The rhythmic sound of the oxygen tank, the background hum of the night staff, and the cries and groans of other patients did not disturb his concentration. The nurse noticed how he remained dedicated to comforting and supporting the elderly man.

In the intervals, the nurse pleaded with him to take a short break, but he refused politely.

When she came back to the ward each time, she observed him standing there, seemingly unaffected by the changing battlefield of the emergency room.

Eventually, the elderly man's condition worsened. The young man released those lifeless hands, searching the ward for the nurse.

After a moment, he found her and, before she could express her sympathy, he asked, "Who was that elderly man?"

The nurse, surprised, inquired, "Wasn't he your father?"

"No, he wasn't," replied the young man. "I saw him for the first time yesterday. After repeated announcements on the microphone and realizing no one was coming for him, I took it upon myself to care for him."

The nurse, astonished, thanked him for his selfless act.

The young man left the emergency room, leaving the nurse in awe and admiration for the unexpected bonds that form in the midst of crisis, showcasing the true essence of humanity.
