Ways to Become Less Stressed

'Stress is an unnecessary emotion.'

By Morgan Georgia BlanksPublished 6 years ago 3 min read

Stress is a natural emotion, and yet it is so unnecessary. Everyone experiences it, whether it be with work or relationships, but it has no purpose. It takes over our minds on a daily basis like a rash; however, like all emotions, it is something that we can learn to control.

What we need to focus on is the positive emotions rather than the negative ones. As hard as it may seem, there are ways of dealing with stress and eventually you’ll see that it is such a waste of energy. The energy you put into being stressed can be used in actually doing something productive. Let’s face it, the more stressed you are, the less likely you will want to do anything.

So what can be done to deal with stress or lessen it? Here are a few suggestions:

Change your mindset.

Your mindset is one of the most important things that you have. It can completely change your outlook on something and make you see things in a different light. What’s important is that you yourself control it. You are in charge of your outlook on life. You can determine whether work is becoming too stressful, or whether you are surrounded by the right people, or whether things are getting a bit too much. And from that, you can learn to do something about it.

To change your mindset you have to really consider whether the thing you are stressed about is really, and I mean really, worth stressing over. Will it be the end of the world? No. Are you wasting your time and energy worrying about it? Yes. Then trust me when I advise that the less you worry about something, the better you will feel. It may feel like the biggest weight on your shoulders at the time but, in the grand scheme of things, is it really going to make that much of an impact on your life? And if it is, then understand that sometimes things happen for a reason, but we always get to create new chances for ourselves.

So change the way that you think and try looking at things from a different perspective. You may just find that there was never really a weight on your shoulders in the first place.

Take your mind away from the source of stress.

This can be done in a number of different ways, both mentally and physically. If you are into all things spiritual then why not do some meditation? And if you’re not or perhaps do not think that you are, then why not try it? Focus your mind on something else. Put some music on; call your family or friends for a chat; go outside and see where your feet take you.

More importantly, don’t feel guilty for trying to occupy your mind. Take time to enjoy the things that make you feel relaxed and happy, and push aside all the things that make you anxious or worried. There is no point in making yourself feel worse when there are so many things you can do to make yourself feel better. Do what is important, not what is expected.

Travel

This is a suggestion that I highly recommend. What better way to reduce stress than to travel to places that you have never been to before? The world is our biggest distraction. It is filled with so many amazing places and things to do, and every part of it deserves to be appreciated.

So find a way to get away from everything. Pack your bags and don’t look back until you come back feeling refreshed and fulfilled! A change of scenery will do you a great deal of good because it not only physically takes you away from the source of stress, but it also mentally takes you away as well.

Realise this.

I think the most significant thing you can take away from reading this is that stress is all to do with our minds. There are things that cause us a lot of strain and worry in our lives, but sometimes we are the ones that create it or we make things worse for ourselves.

Our minds are so powerful. They control everything—how we think and feel, how we see things and what we say. By realising this, we will be able to counsel ourselves into a state of happiness by choosing to only focus our minds on everything that is positive about our lives. Things may not be going the way you want them to right now, but that doesn’t mean it will always be that way. You can control how you deal with everything because it’s your mind.

Gradually learn how to deal with your own stress and find what works for you, but remember that life is too short to be feeling such an unnecessary emotion.
