It has been proved in many research that insufficient sleep or poor quality of sleep increases the risk of high blood pressure , heart diseases, diabetes , depression and obesity. In this article, learn how the REM sleep stage helps you to avoid many dangerous diseases.

What is REM Sleep?

The REM sleep stage (Rapid Eye Movement Sleep, REM) is one of the five stages of sleep, in which your eyes move rapidly behind the eyelids in different directions during sleep. The REM sleep stage is an important part of our sleep pattern. You can have more and faster dreams during the REM sleep stage, because your brain is more active at that time. Which has a good effect on our health.

Brain to be more active at bedtime

Do you know that there is a lot going on in your mind and body while sleeping. It is quite true that your brain goes through five different stages of sleep several times each night . The REM sleep stage is the fifth and most important sleep stage . Rem sleep plays an important role in restoring your mind as well as your ability to learn and remember. If you do not get enough sleep sleep for only one night, then you will definitely feel tired the next day and you will also feel less energy .

To understand the REM sleep stage better, you have to understand the first four stages of sleep . Following are the stages of sleep:

1. Your dreams can become intense during the REM sleep stage, because your brain is more active at that time.

2. Babies spend up to 50% of their sleep in REM sleep stage compared to adults . At the same time, adults spend only 20% of REM sleep.

REM sleep stage and five sleep stages

Stage 1

In this state of sleep the eyes slow down, the muscles are not yet fully relaxed. This phase of very light sleep usually lasts for about five minutes.

Stage 2

During this stage, you are sleepy . Your heart rate slows down and your body temperature also drops . During this time the body is getting ready for deep sleep . If you hear a slight noise in this stage then you can easily wake up. Stage two sleeps for about 45–50 minutes.

Stage 3

It is a state of deep sleep. It is difficult for a person to wake up during the REM sleep stage, and if someone wakes you up, you don't understand anything for a few minutes.

Stage 4

In this state you experience your deep sleep and when you are in this state it can be difficult to wake up easily. This condition lasts for about 15 minutes.

REM sleep stage improvement process

When you reach beyond the REM sleep stage, the body improvement process begins. Our cells regenerate, bones, muscles and immunity begin to improve.

It takes about 70–90 minutes to go through all these stages of sleep and it is a continuous process. A complete sleep cycle, including REM sleep , takes 90–110 minutes and most people complete four to six sleep cycles each night . The first period of REM sleep is usually 10 minutes. Each subsequent REM sleep cycle becomes longer and can last up to an hour. During this time your heart rate and breathing become faster.

Why do we need REM sleep?

1. When you wake up after the state of REM sleep, you feel very refreshed and active. Rem is the last stage of sleep, so if you are unable to sleep during this time, then the next day you feel very tired .

2. If you get a consistent sleep throughout the night without waking up, our brain clears and removes neurotoxins. Such as some Western products called beta-amyloid, which are found in people with Alzheimer disease .

3. The REM sleep stage is directly related to the formation of proteins . According to a research, REM sleep affects mental skills . REM sleep stimulates the parts of the brain that are used in the learning process. Therefore, it is said that REM sleep is more important for children than adults.

4. Rem sleep can help to clear our brain's day-long mess (bad thoughts). However, interrupted sleep means less rem sleep, which means that we have not been able to fully clear our thoughts or we have less time for it.

5. People who do not have sufficient sleep Ram can have a high risk of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease . Also, one does not feel freshness when waking up in the morning. In such people, the chances of sleeping during the day increase.
