What does it take to live a healthy life? It’s often easier said than done, as health and diet choices are such personal decisions. However, there are some things that most people can agree on when it comes to leading healthier lifestyles — and they don’t involve spending money on luxury items or spending hours in the gym working out. Instead, with these simple keys to living a healthy life, you can improve your lifestyle without changing your schedule or budget much at all!

Eat whole foods

Eating whole foods is important for a number of reasons: It’s healthier, it keeps you fuller for longer, and if you make it yourself, it's also cheaper. The single best thing anyone can do for his or her health is to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. You can't go wrong with that as your base diet.

Exercise every day

The easiest way to add physical activity into your day is by exercising every day. This doesn’t have to be anything major; just getting up and taking a 10-minute walk around your neighborhood or going for a jog during your lunch break is enough. If you struggle with making exercise a regular part of your life, try adding it in place of an activity you already do. For example, if you regularly watch TV after work but want to exercise more, simply get up earlier and walk for 30 minutes instead of relaxing on the couch. It may seem counterintuitive, but one small change like that can quickly become habit-forming and lead you down the path toward better health overall.

Don’t drink too much alcohol

If you find yourself reaching for wine, beer or cocktails more often than water, you may need to rethink your health goals. Drinking alcohol in excess can lead to serious long-term problems, such as liver disease and heart problems. Even if drinking isn’t causing any immediate health issues, it still isn’t healthy—it can interfere with your sleep and make your mood swingy depending on what and how much you drink each night. If you want to keep your mind clear and body healthy, avoid alcohol as much as possible and go for something healthier like juice or water instead.

Go outside!

Did you know that experts say we need at least 15 minutes of fresh air each day? Get out in nature, or even just go for a walk around your neighborhood. Research shows that spending time outside can boost mood and improve physical health. It can also help cut stress, lower anxiety and depression, alleviate fatigue and bring you closer to your community. To lead a healthy life, take steps toward getting more fresh air by going on walks or bike rides regularly—you’ll be glad you did!

Sleep well

It’s no secret that our bodies have their own internal clocks that regulate when we should go to sleep and wake up. If you aren’t taking full advantage of those rhythms, you may not be getting as much restful sleep as your body requires. To help ensure you get at least eight hours of shut-eye per night, it’s best to establish daily bedtime rituals that allow your body time to wind down so it can fall asleep quickly.

Just do it!

There are too many diets out there and not enough people who stick with them. The good news is that eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to give up all your favorite foods and cut way back on everything else. In fact, there are plenty of ways you can enjoy tasty foods without sabotaging your diet. Here are just five suggestions for boosting flavor without blowing your healthy-eating game
