fact or fiction
Is it a fact or is it merely fiction? Fact or Fiction explores the lesser known truths in the health and wellness world of Longevity.
Conventional vs. Holistic Medicine
Conventional and holistic medicine are both million dollar industries. When it comes down to it, everyone is looking for a cure to what ails them. There are countless arguments for and against both, often with strong options on either side. Whether you prefer westernized medicine or alternative health care, neither are without flaws. After doing a lot of research and talking to people who either work in the industries or have strong beliefs about this subject, I came to a conclusion. First though, I would like to outline a few pros and cons of each type of medicine:
Nicole (Nikki) M.Published 7 years ago in LongevityHow to Get Rid of the Depression Trap
The representatives of the beautiful sex are trapped in depression three times more often than the male half of the poopulation. This has its logical explanation based on the psychological, physiological, and situational aspects of life as a woman. Thankfully, there are ways to help alleviate the stress — and improve women's wellbeing naturally.
The Changing Face of Plastic Surgery
The decision to get plastic surgery is a deeply personal one. While an entertainer may see cosmetic surgery as a vital career move, others may see it as a necessity. Some, like the maturing Botox generation, want to effectively delay the signs of aging, some want a more exotic look, and some may even have surgeryfor amusement or on a whim.
Patricia SarkarPublished 7 years ago in LongevityAutism Isn't Abnormal
The definition of a disability is to be someone with certain characteristics that are different to most people. A neurotypical person on the other hand is defined to have characteristics that fit society’s general layout. Yet the word dis-ability suggests that neurotypicals are able and normal, whereas anyone else is considered of less worth to society.

For years I have struggled with an unnamed illness that just didn't seem to have a cause. My test results would come back clear. There was no diabetes, Lupus, STDs or arthritis. I'd been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, IBS, gastro-reflux, severe sleep apnea, depression, and anxiety. Even with treatment for all these other conditions, I still felt constantly sick, achy and fatigued to the extreme. Finally, after a barrage of not so great doctors (who treated me like I was stupid, lying or didn't know my own body), I found an amazing clinic with doctor's who would actually listen to me. I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

Ironically, I am hoping that people click on this article which makes me sound pretty hypocritical right off the bat. Now that I have your attention, I hope to take you on a journey through the maze of attention-grabbing links, ads, fake news, real fake news and false promises. The end result will be the liberation of your mind and heart.

The other day, I came across a really powerful article written by a husband about his wife’s emergency visit to the hospital in which her needs were minimized by the staff. It brought back some bad memories. I was inspired to share the article with women on the various Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Facebook groups. After all, we are not only women, we are women with PMDD… "a merely hysterical and imagined illness meant to justify our bad moods and suicidal tendencies.”

Breast cancer is a disease that effects an estimated 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1000 men each year. It comes with a slew of side effects and takes an average of 40,000 lives a year. It is safe to say that it is a deadly, serious disease. However, many individuals, both those who deal with breast cancer and those who do not, feel that breast cancer ads and slogans are sexualized, and as such this takes away from the serious nature of the disease.
J.C. MariePublished 7 years ago in LongevityCan Technology Heal Blindness?
While the world and technology has become more accommodating to the visually impaired, blindness remains a huge issue for many people who either used to be able to see before losing their vision or never saw at all. While braille and seeing eye dogs have helped, many scientists believe that assistive technologies can be developed that can further help the blind.
Anthony GramugliaPublished 7 years ago in LongevityIs It Possible To Be Fat and Healthy?
It is undeniable that, on a social level, there is a stigma to being fat. What less people talk about is the stigma fat people face just when going to the doctor's office. If you walk in for your check-up, complaining of shortness of breath or achy joints, the doctor will probably tell you to lose weight. In actuality, any number of things can be wrong with you (even dangerous things like cancer) but the doctor came to a conclusion about your health the moment you walked into his or her office.
Anthony GramugliaPublished 7 years ago in LongevityHealth Frauds People Still Believe In
Back in the 19th century, one of the fastest ways people made a quick buck was through selling quack cures for everything. One of the most common fraudulent panaceas that would be hawked was snake oil. Nowadays, we know that snake oil does absolutely nothing for one's health. But, back in the day, gullible people would snap up bottle after bottle.
