Intellectual wellness is focused on learning, and is one of the six dimensions of wellness. The idea behind intellectual wellness is to explore the world around you or learn more about yourself. There are other ways to practice intellectual wellness, however these are the two most common. When practiced, intellectual wellness helps you live a more fulfilling life by engaging yourself with the world around you.

Ways to promote intellectual wellness

If you’re learning something new, you’re focusing on your intellectual wellness!

  • Reading
  • Learning new skills
  • Taking a course at a community college
  • Getting a new hobby
  • Or keep focusing on a hobby you already have
  • Visit a museum.
  • Painting/drawing
  • Being creative in pretty much any way
  • So Much More!

Don't like to read?

Reading is a very popular, and often recommended way to practice intellectual wellness. If you don't really like to read much, I have good news! There are other options than just boring novels. In fact, sometimes it doesn't even have to be reading at all.

Here are some other options:

  • Magazines
  • Graphic novels
  • Blogs
  • Radio programs
  • Detailed colouring books

Five Minutes to Intellectual Wellness

Some say that intellectual wellness is one of the most overlooked wellness aspects... however, the truth is that most people take part in intellectual wellness activities on their own already. Any time that you learn something new, you exercised your intellectual wellness. If you are having trouble finding time to practice your intellectual wellness, here are way to do so in just five minutes a day.

  • Reading a few pages of a book, magazine, or newspaper.
  • Draw a quick picture with coloured pencils.
  • Write a short poem.
  • Buy a day calendar that teaches you a new word a day.
  • Try Duolingo! An app that lets you learn a little bit of new language every day.

Why should you take care of your Intellectual Wellness?

Intellectual Wellness is one of the six dimensions of wellness, in order to maintain a healthy balanced life... all six aspects need to be considered. Other advantages to taking care of your Intellectual Wellness are to help strengthen your ability to think, and to help reduce the risk of deterioration of the brain in later life. Which I'm sure you can agree, those are pretty good reasons to give these activities try.

I’ve taken online classes for writing, and even some classes about the art of blogging itself. It would be really awesome if you join the adventure, and maybe even help me think of what to write about next. Thank you for reading my article. Would it be okay if I ask another favour though? Would it be okay if you share this on your Facebook page or Twitter? If you can't share, there is a tiny little donate box at the bottom too. No pressure though, just thought I would mention.
