How do certain health problems affect sleep? And what should be done to get rid of them and sleep well?

This is a traditional problem that seriously disrupts sleep. At night, it usually manifests itself in the form of allergic rhinitis, when the nose is heavily stuffed up.

Because of this, a person cannot fully breathe, and the brain is poorly supplied with oxygen. As a result, headache, bad mood, irritability appear in the morning.

For those allergic to pollen, nocturnal attacks are more frequent in the spring and summer during the flowering period. And in people with food reactions, they can occur if they overeat prohibited foods at night.

A qualified allergy gologist must ask the patient about his sleep. If any troubles are present, you need to take drugs with enhanced nighttime effects. Or additional "evening" pills. With proper treatment, sleep will be restored.

Also, allergy sufferers must follow some recommendations. It is worth buying a synthetic pillow and a blanket, thoroughly rinsing the bed linen from the powder. Plus, ventilate the room well before bed. These measures will allow you not to provoke seizures once again.

Hypertension

People with high blood pressure are known to sleep less. Instead of the prescribed 7-8 hours a day, they can spend in bed only 6 or even 5. Plus, their sleep is superficial, which is why hypertensive patients often wake up in the middle of the night.

Such sleep disorders are caused by drugs for hypertension. Therefore, the first thing to do to normalize sleep is to consult a cardiologist. So that he picks up other pills that will not interfere with the night's rest.

However, people with high blood pressure believe that they can cope with the troubles themselves by simply swallowing a sedative or sleeping pill.

And then you will have to contact a somnologist so that he can conduct an examination and prescribe a suitable sleeping pill.

In addition, there are remedies that not only help you fall asleep, but also slightly reduce high blood pressure. Therefore, they will be especially useful for hypertensive patients.

Excess weight

A fat person is threatened by another sleep disorder - excessive sleepiness. Such people do not get enough sleep at night, and during the day they feel overwhelmed and tired.

This is caused by frequent stopping of breathing at night, which is called obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. The body is deprived of the deep sleep phase, during which it mostly rests. Moreover, the person himself may think that he sleeps normally. After all, consciousness does not "remember" such attacks.

In addition to traditional weight loss procedures, it is imperative to conduct a special study - polysomnography. It is this that can accurately identify apnea.

For this, the patient is placed in a separate room at night and connected to the device using small sensors. The device records respiration, heart rate, and brain activity. Shows whether a person often tosses and turns in a dream and in what position he sleeps more: on his side, back or stomach.

If the diagnosis is confirmed, treatment should be started immediately. Today there is a method of dealing with nocturnal respiratory arrest that does not require surgery or pills. It is done with a small device that can be used at home.

During sleep, you need to put on a mask connected to the device. Through it, oxygen-enriched air is supplied under pressure. He kind of pushes the airways and prevents them from closing. After the first sessions, sleep is normalized and daytime weakness disappears.

Osteochondrosis

Sleep can also be spoiled with back problems. The damaged vertebral discs are displaced and pinched the nerve endings. As a result, unpleasant sensations arise, which interfere with sleep.

Because of this, a person spends the night tossing and turning from side to side. And in the morning he gets up nervous and depressed.

The first step is to find the right mattress. It should not be too hard or too soft. Usually, for certain problems of the spine, the individual elasticity of the mattress and its composition are selected.

You should also pay attention to the pillows. The large feather pillow will have to be replaced with an orthopedic one. It is made specifically for the shape of the neck and allows the vertebrae not to strain during sleep.

Also today, pillows have appeared that are stuffed with cereals, for example, buckwheat or rice. They also help the neck not to pinch. Plus, they have a light massage effect, which helps to relax and sleep better.

In case of severe anxiety, you need to contact a specialist so that he selects the necessary painkillers and sleeping pills. Do not take pills on your own, because some medications cause sleep impairment.

For example, morphine and codeine can significantly shorten deep sleep. As a result, a person does not normally rest during the night. And other strong painkillers "remove" the period of night rest in which we see dreams. This can also adversely affect health and psyche.

Heartburn

This problem interferes with sleep for many people. This is especially true for residents of megalopolises, who eat poorly during the day, and overeat in the evening.

As a result, acid from the stomach begins to enter the esophagus. Unpleasant sensations appear. They interfere with restful sleep and make you wake up several times during the night.

Some sleeping pills can also cause heartburn. Once in the stomach in the evening, they cause excess acid secretion at night.

In order to normalize sleep with heartburn, you should first change your diet and not overeat at night. It is also recommended to raise the head edge of the bed by 15–20 centimeters.

If traditional recommendations do not help, you need to conduct a survey. A small catheter is inserted into the patient's esophagus, which contains an acidity meter. It records the number and severity of nocturnal attacks. Based on the data obtained, the doctor prescribes the appropriate treatment. Long-acting drugs are usually used. They reduce the secretion of stomach acid and prevent it from entering the esophagus. It is better to take them a few hours before bedtime, so that the maximum effect is at night.

If the cause of heartburn is sleeping pills, you must definitely contact a neurologist so that he can pick up another drug.
