Live a Healthier Life

Having a healthier lifestyle is a common goal for a lot of people. When you sit back and take an inventory of your life and how you are living it, you see multiple areas that need work. It may be your job, your home, your appearance, your health, or your family’s health. No matter how good you think you are living your daily life, there is always room for improvement. Let’s take a look at some of the areas of our lives that we could work on in order to improve it.

Career

We all know that we have to work and earn money to pay our bills, but you don’t have to work yourself to death in order to survive. Most of us are very dedicated to our career, and we often find ourselves working 50, 60, or even 70 hours a week. You can keep this pace for several months, but pretty soon you will start to show signs of stress and exhaustion. There is now a recognized medical condition called “Burn Out,” and that is when you have worked so many hours per week for an extended period of time that you are burned out and physically and mentally exhausted. Doctors can actually diagnose you with this condition and prescribe a form of treatment for you. To me, it’s pretty simple. Stop working so many hours. I know it’s easier said than done, but if you have to work 70 hours a week at your job, then your employer needs to hire more employees. When you devote yourself to work like that, you put off important things like sleep, exercise, and spending time with your family; and sooner or later, it will catch up to you.

Health

Our health, or weight, is usually the first thing we think of when we think about changing our lifestyle. Your overall health is more than just losing weight. Exercise, diet, and our habits, good and bad, contribute to our overall health. You may not have the desire to hit the gym for hours every day, but adding in just 30 minutes a day of exercise will greatly contribute to the betterment of your health. Your diet is extremely important to your health. Diets not only help weight loss, but it can also help lower your cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, or help with diabetes. The food you put into your body can literally kill you if you’re not careful. If you eat a diet that is full of salt, your blood pressure will sky rocket to very high levels. A diet that is filled with sugar will directly affect your body’s ability to produce insulin and could result in diabetes. Trust me when I tell you that you don’t want this to happen, so it’s important that you are mindful of what you put into your mouth. You can try different diets such as the lectin free diet, Atkins diet, South Beach diet, and so many more. There is literally a specialized diet to help you achieve whatever health goals you are shooting for.

Habits

This can be a touchy subject for some people to discuss, but all of us have habits. Some are good and some are bad. Bad habits, such as smoking cigarettes, is something that you need to address immediately. Smoking cigarettes can do so much damage to your body that is irreversible. It causes all kinds of upper respiratory problems and the more deadly disease, lung cancer. Not to mention that the price of cigarettes is around $8 a pack, so it’s a very expensive habit to have. Drinking alcohol in excess is another bad habit that millions of American’s suffer from. Drinking too much alcohol can cause cirrhosis of the liver which leads to death.
