Thoth Tarot Deck

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

This week all three cards popped out on their own while I was shuffling so I decided to use them as they fell.

The Center card for the week is The Star.

As above, so below. The Star is the card of dreams and visions. When we find ourselves swept away by our imagination and we let go of the here and now, we’re much closer to our Universal connection than when we have our focus on the daily routines and demands we deal with. It’s easy to tell when we’ve shifted from the mundane to the higher mind, the outside world falls away and our focus is on the scenes inside the mind. And when some outside stimulus brings us back we feel a definite, sometimes jarring, sense of vertigo. With practice there are ways to integrate that Universal connection into our daily experiences so that, not only are the transitions less jarring but it allows us to find the threads of our dreams and visions as they show up in our everyday lives. As we consider our Divine purpose on this plane, learning to open to the Universal mind can help keep us aware of the grand design and our part in it rather than feeling pushed and pulled by tides that we’re unaware of. Our own personal truth is the source from which our dreams spring and as we learn to hold the connection to that truth we bring it into our waking lives to temper and compel us to stay true to that vision.

The West card is Adjustment (RWS similar to Judgement)

As we work to bring our dreams and ideals into our waking existence our conscious mind inevitably notices inconsistencies in the world around us. It’s when we can observe those inconsistencies without judgement and truly appreciate the differences that make us so uniquely human that we can find the lesson and/or the joy in our experience. With both the Star and Adjustment this week there is likely to be a challenge that will give us a chance to clearly experience inconsistencies and inequities in our environment. This opportunity to face a situation that’s out of balance is the perfect proving ground for our ability to appreciate the subtle shifts that require attention. The ways in which we notice an imbalance and the steps we take to bring things back to center give us a better understanding of Universal equilibrium.

The East card is the 5 of Pentacles.

And therein lies the challenge. With this five we look at inequities in our physicality; time, money, energy, our physical health, our resources. It seems no wonder that the pentacles are this week’s vehicle for noticing imbalance, their earthy connection is specifically aligned with our physical reality. With the up-in-the-clouds ideals and designs of the Star and our work towards balance in Adjustment the perfect catalyst for bringing us back down to earth is our physical reality. We may have brilliant ideas and plans inspired by our Universal interconnection and the knowledge of how they work perfectly in reality but resources of time and energy, not to mention money, are the challenges we face on a very real basis in order to bring our plans to fruition.

In conclusion;

There is an opportunity this week for us to imagine great things, find the recipe for how to make them work in the “real” world and deal with the minutiae of earthy details and challenges.To the extent we can stay objective, notice inconsistencies -without judging to harshly- and seek the balance needed to make it all work out, we can not only find success but recover balance in our own experience.

Have a dreamy week! Light, Tory

TIP for the week: We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty. Maya Angelou
