Thoth Tarot Deck

Each week when I do these readings I set up my reading space with black fabric (for the photo, mostly but it also allows for and smooth, calm space to focus on the cards) make sure I have undisturbed quiet time; dogs are out, husband is at work/play/store/whatever, phone is off, etc… I begin with a quick grounding meditation and settle into a centered peace to ask for guidance in choosing the cards which will be most appropriate for the week ahead. I shuffle the cards with my intent in mind and spread them in a dealer’s “ribbon spread”. Then with eyes closed, I ask for the Center card, the West card and finally, the East card, reaching out to the spread, touching the cards and choosing the one that feels most fully under my finger tip, then sliding them into their positions. Before opening my eyes I return to a calm, centered state and do my best to sense whether the three cards I’ve chosen are the most fitting for the highest and best for all involved. Only then do I turn them face up and photograph them for the reading. There are times when I see the three cards before me and groan or breathe a sigh of relief but I always use the cards I’ve selected ”blindly”.

That said;

The Center card this week is the 2 of Swords.

The concept of “as above, so below” lives here. In the perfect balance of these two swords we see the intellect coming to peace with itself. The realization that dreams are valid and, with focus and the acceptance of our own abilities, can become reality. In the image on the card we see two identical large swords crossing at their midpoint within the flower of life -the heart of the matter or person- thus creating the effect of four swords. In this image we can see the mystery of how two becomes four or four becomes two and the enigmatic concepts to ponder as to how and why. What may seem duplicitous resolves itself in balance and we see a cohesion and cooperation between logic and dreaming.

The West card is the Star.

The Star is the card of dreams and visions. She embodies our hopes and dreams and our most outrageous ideas. Within her energy we also find pipe dreams and the propensity to live in a “dream world”. The good news this week is that we have the 2 of swords energy as a primary influence which gives us a chance to see the line where dream meets reality or reality meets pipe dream and with courage plus intellectual fortitude we can walk that line. We can allow that interface to define for us what is truly possible and what might tip us over into pure fantasy. I personally am a big fan of fantasy and following my imagination wherever it may lead but I also know that human beings, to flourish in this physical world, must forge the connection between the two. With nothing but dreams we can become narcissistic fall into a delusional loss of Self. With pure reason we may become stilted, stuck in the construct of other people's dreams or afraid of change and new ideas. Real life can walk both sides and we have the capacity in our big, human brains to see the distinction.

The East card is the 10 of Wands.

In this interesting juxtaposition between dreams and intellect we begin to recognize what the Star that guides us with dreams and visions means for us to see and to incorporate into the reality of our lives. In doing so we may also see just what life experiences, interpersonal relationships and physical responsibilities hold us in a place where our dreams can’t shine as brightly as we’d like. With the suit of wands we look at our curiosity, creativity and the inner fire of will that drives us, so when we find ourselves with the opportunity to see where the creativity of our dreams and the reality of physicality find a connection the desire to spark the engine and take off is strong. Where we may run into issues is when we encounter opposition in the form of lack of resources, negative opinions, personal responsibilities that don’t quite fit the plan or time constraints. At these times this week it will be hard not to retreat into our soft, comfy dream world to avoid conflict. Retreat may be the easy thing to do but it won’t be the productive, nurturing or fulfilling thing to do. Light a candle with a wish and watch the flame as a reminder of the fire within. Make a list of your wishes and do at least one thing to honor them. Even if it’s just to tell a friend what you’d really like to do or have or be. When we speak we breathe life into our words. Of course, you could announce that you're selling everything and moving to Tahiti but realistically, how many of us can actually do that? More than you’d think? I guess it all depends on how much risk we’re willing to take to follow our dreams and make them real.

In conclusion;

It’s going to be a dreamy week. Fortunately, our minds are at peace but also full of interest and contemplation so our response to opposition or challenge should be either calm observation and thoughtful response or a desire to retreat into fantasy. If we can use the time we do have to daydream looking for the areas where our dreams meet possible reality we can keep from falling into a la la land of fantasy plus maybe even find a way to make things work.

Have a fantastical week!

Light, Tory

Tip of the week: That is what we are supposed to do when we are at our best -make it all up- but make it up so truly that later it will happen that way.
