Controlling Your Diabetes

What is Diabetes?

The level of blood sugar predicts the severity of the diabetic condition and the related complications of both types. The overeating of sugar and refined carbohydrates, also the overeating of animal proteins and fats, are transformed into sugar when consumed in excess. All forms of sugar, including raw sugar, honey, and brown sugar, are simple sugars and should be avoided. Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners have been linked with brain seizures, blindness, migraine, depression, and the worsening of complications due to diabetes, and should be avoided as well.

High blood sugar causes chemical changes in the nerves and damages blood vessels carrying oxygen and nutrients to the nerves, impairing nerve function. Too much sugar taxes the pancreas and eventually paralyses its normal activity. The impact of diabetes on the kidneys, can lead to scarring in the kidney tissue, loss of small or progressively larger amounts of protein in the urine, and eventually chronic kidney disease requiring dialysis. Diabetic neuropathy is the effect of diabetes on the nervous system, commonly causing numbness, tingling and pain in the feet and also increasing the risk of skin damage due to changed sensations.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is painful, because when oxygen-starved nerves start collapsing, they cause cutting and searing pain in the muscles of the hands and feet along with tingling and numbness at the same time. Macular edema is the most serious form of diabetic retinopathy and the main cause of blindness in people with diabetes. As a diabetic, your infection can spread rapidly, and until you experience any loss of sensation, you may not recognize that the problem exists or is getting worse.

Physicians know more about diabetes now, than ever before and there are many medications on the market to treat symptoms and keep the disease under control. A doctor normally prescribes a visit with a registered dietitian to work out a specific meal plan, and the patient pays a substantial sum each month for consultation and diabetes supplies, including special foods, insulin, alcohol pads, pills, ointments and salves. Medical professionals today are only treating the symptoms of the disease and do not address the true cause and cure.

Understanding the western diet lifestyle that is contributing to the growth of diabetes mellitus can help a diabetic person learn about possible pitfalls, such as poor nutrition, fast food restaurants and toxic foods that could be detrimental to their health and life. A thorough and authoritative book that outlines procedures and methods for cures is “Healing the Gerson Way”. This book gives complete insight into the disease and offers the solution in the form of a brilliant, precision-built nutritional program that eliminates the underlying causes of disease, leading to lasting cures and elimination of all medications for a longer normal life.

Diabetes Controlling Your Blood Sugar

All methods of treatment should concentrate on the removal of the actual cause of the disease and simultaneously reinforcing the body’s natural immune system. The diabetic should not be afraid to eat fresh fruits and vegetables which contain the sugar fructose, which does not need insulin for its metabolism. A Plant-based diet with emphasis on raw foods, stimulates and increases insulin production, which promotes and increases sugar tolerance. String beans, celery, cucumbers, garlic and onions are especially beneficial.

The skin of the pods of green beans are extremely rich in silica and certain hormone substances which are closely related to insulin. One cup of string bean tea is equal to one unit of insulin. Cucumbers contain a hormone needed by the cells of the pancreas for producing insulin. Scientific investigations have established that the plant-based diet is highly beneficial and effective in the treatment and cure of diabetes. Vegetables and fruits contain an insulin-like principle, known as plant-insulin which has been found effective in lowering the blood and urine sugar levels.
