Binge-watching for your soul

2020 meant a lot for the humanity, but also for the binge-watch industry. While science was dealing with the worst virus in modern times, due to the big "unknown" factor, while cities and countries were closing borders and the biggest antisocial measurements took Earth by surprise over time, the film industry was having a well deserved thrive.

After watching the most depressing news, due to the fact that my son is in the vulnerable category, I decided it is time to take this Covid depression bull by the horns, and " dictate" a happy regime in our household. Apart from washing hands and keeping our distance, there wasn't much that we could do to save the world, but we could do so much for our inner world.

If our inner world is fine, at peace, happy, nothing from the exterior should change our mood. Unfortunately, depression affected a lot of people in the past year, and submersing yourself in gore images and negativity made it even worst with daily negative news, while being confined to 4 walls, I think most of us dreamt and "planned" a "prison break" to Bahamas in their head, once we were finally "free".

But if you are careful at what you expose yourself during public difficult times, can really improve your self- esteem, mood and happiness. So binge watching was the way to go in this pandemic, to "clean" your mind of the sadness and insecurities that prevailed upon the earth. That 4k screen gave us hope, that someday we can go back to the "before".

Uplifting series that are suitable for the whole family, was the way to go for our household, as otherwise you would need to attach your remote control to your side pocket and be a tv justiciar the entire time.

If as a teenager you loved "Friends", one of the best written series, that even after 20 years is still relevant and many people can still relate to that, then for sure you are going to enjoy "Modern Family". Both series depict modern times issues, that are portraited into a comical manner, but still raise very important aspects of human acceptance: love problems, weight issues, pregnancy, racism, homophobia etc.

We learn a lot in school on how to perceive life, but mostly how we actually perceive it, it is done through mass-media, that dictates our perception and reaction to the unknown. If we have never been to the Iraq, we will always think it is unsafe for us, as this is the only information we have about it.

Same applies to the series we watch, they can be to a degree educational, or inspiring. I mean everyone wants a true love like in the "Titanic", or steamy sex like in "Bridgerton", but sometimes mass-media can inflict sadness, can raise many questions about your own reality, and adding to that "instalife" and "real life". Everything you see with your eyes and hear with your own ears alter or enhance your perception.

Have you ever watched a horror movie, and you weren't able to sleep at night, and swear that was the last one, so an experience that never happened to you in real life, actually made you feel unsafe, horrified, afraid?

That is why in certain moments of our life, when we are vulnerable, it is best to protect ourselves and watch positive uplifting movies. As, at the end of the day, most of us we are looking for happiness. That is the best formula when picking out what to watch. We first must ask ourselves, how we are feeling that day, and how we want to feel?

Another great series is "The bold type", where a woman independence and being self-sufficient are depicted. If you love that then you will love "Emily in Paris", such a great series that come out in the pandemic, which was such a breath of fresh air. Both series portraited the independent strong modern woman, that has to do deal from boys to BRCA-gene, from becoming a woman to having a miscarriage, or from an office girl to moving to a new culture, where every new custom teaches you to enjoy life to bites and pieces, that everything even your morning coffee should be part of a great ritual of self empowerment, happiness and self-love, and always staying true to one selves. Both should be enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea and be part of the me-time ritual, a well deserved girl's time while the pandemic is still in full bloom and we long for human connection.

In conclusion remember a flower blooms if it has Sun, a healthy soil and water, so make sure you treat yourself the same.
