Who doesn’t want perfect vision?

Seeing everything bright and clear versus seeing everything clear with glasses - the second option might feel like a crutch. People with poor eyesight can only opt for glasses or lenses. Both have their pros and cons. And another solution for vision correction is Lasik Surgery. But going through surgery can be a life-changing decision. If you have opted for a Lasik procedure, you will also need to take care of some points after the surgery.

Post Lasik surgery Care

1. Lubricate your eyes well

Lasik Surgery is a short procedure with minimal invasion in your eyes. This surgery only causes slight discomfort and nothing major with your eyes. And that too for the initial hours after the surgery.

Your eyes will only get a bit watery and stingy for a few hours. You can solve this issue using eye solutions. Also because of sitting inside AC, your eyes will get dry, keep on lubricating them. Keeping your eyes moist will avoid them getting itchy. You will feel less discomfort if your eyes are moist or lubricated.

2. Proper safety glasses

Going back to work after Lasik surgery is possible. You can join your work earliest by 24 hours. If you work in front of computers, don’t join back before 24 hours. Working in front of computers will strain your eyes. You should not use computers for 24 hours post-surgery.

If you work in a construction site or any outdoor venue where you are exposed to dirt, dust, or debris, wear proper safety glasses and avoid getting any dirt and dust in your eyes. You might get an infection.

3. Wear sunglasses

After the surgery, your eyes will get sensitive to light. Even if your eyes are okay and sensitive to light, you should wear sunglasses when going outside. UV rays are the bright light that is harmful to your eyes. By wearing sunglasses you can protect your eyes from these harmful factors.

4. Don’t drive

Don’t drive for a while. You should ask your friends and family to chaperone you around for a while. You can drive after 24 hours, however, long-distance driving with your changed vision is not good. Drive only short distances and be careful of bright lights giving you halos in the night. Because of swelling after the surgery, you might get to see halos around the street lights, headlights at night time. So it’s better for you to not drive at night.

5. Avoid working on computers or phones

Avoid computers and phones after getting the surgery for 24 hours. Even after 24 hours do not stick to your digital device for a very long period. If your job requires you to work in front of computers, then lubricate your eyes from time to time.

Computers will strain your eyes. Also, the blue light emitted from the screen will make your eyes fatigued. You can wear blue light blocking glasses which block blue lights and don’t let your eyes strain. Wear these glasses while working. It will help your work go smoothly without any eye pain or eye strain.

Most people don’t blink when looking at the computer screen. Also, the AC causes your eyes to become dry causing you discomfort and itchiness in your eyes.

6. Avoid taking a shower

Yes, avoid taking showers for a while. Dona’t worry. You don’t have to forgo hygiene. Just don’t let water or soapy water into your eyes.

And don’t rub your eyes needlessly. Your eyes are delicate after surgery, rubbing will disturb the recovery process of your eyes.

7. Avoid sweat getting into eyes

Avoid sweat to get into your eyes. Exercising and playing sports will cause you to sweat. You should avoid getting sweaty for a while. Getting sweat in your eyes will make them irritating. You will be exposed to infection. Because of irritation, you will end up rubbing your eyes

8. Don’t rub your eyes

Don’t rub your eyes. Your eyes will get itchy. But you should restrain yourself. It will take at least 2 weeks for your cornea to heal completely. After that, you can play your favourite sports, exercise, get sweaty, get dirt and dust into your eyes. Your eyes will be fine. Just avoid rubbing your eyes for the time being.

9. Avoid tubes. Travel less

The tube or other public transportation mode is full of dirt and dust. You should avoid travelling by these modes for the time being. You can ask your friends to drive you around or hire a driver for some time.

10. No make-up or especially eye makeup

Bad news for ladies, you cannot apply make-up after surgery. You will have to refrain from doing eye makeup or any makeup around your eyes.

11. No drinking

No brainer precaution. Before and after any surgery you should avoid drinking liquor. Avoid drinking liquor for 24 hours after surgery.
