7. Georgina Chinenye Ibeh

This story is kinda funny to me and I'll tell you where I find it funny.

Georgina Ibeh is a Nollywood actress who lost a whole lot of weight within 2 years, and came out on the other side with a fitter bod and a reason as to why she decided to lose the weight, and what some tips are.

She said in an interview with Saturday Beats:

Losing weight was a personal decision I took after I discovered I was getting the same roles in films and wanted something different.

It was like a standstill in my career as I used to get cast for roles of an aunt or an elder sister. I wasn’t given the type of roles my peers were getting.

This next line is where I find funny:

The event that broke the camel’s back was when I was given a role to act as Patience Ozokwor’s friend; I told myself I had to lose weight.

🤣🤣

I registered at a gym in Asaba, Delta State, and that was how I started my weight loss journey. I maintained an all-protein diet with fewer carbohydrates. I weighed 98.9kg and later reduced to 75.6kg.

I challenged myself and I am happy today. Exercise is wonderful. It was my personal decision I did it for myself and my career, I wanted to be a versatile actress; to be able to get roles to act like a man’s wife, girlfriend or fiancée; I didn’t do it for any man.

In reference to the before and after picture she posted on her Instagram (I'll show you after this quote), she said:

When I posted my before and after picture, I was open to negative and positive comments.

Most people mistook my old picture for my mother’s. When my parents saw me after I lost weight, my mum was in tears and it was an awesome feeling for me. I was so happy and proud of myself.

I now get the type of roles I want, I can fit into any type of role, and I am no longer boxed into being typecast for certain roles.

6. Lepacious Bose

Lepacious Bose gathered a lot of eyeballs when she debuted her body transformation on social media. The standup comedian who coined the stage name 'Lepacious Bose' as a joke because of her size, went from a size 32 to a size 14! She lost over 70 kilograms!

Speaking on how she achieved such a transformation, she said:

You do a lot of rethinking. Even your friends would change, your lifestyle would change. Everything would change because everything is connected to food. As is typical of Lagos, were I to be invited to a birthday party tomorrow, I would not attend because I already have a weekly food program and I already know that if I go there I would eat this, eat that. So if you suddenly invite me, I would check my timetable. I would probably cheat when I get there. And I already cheated yesterday. You can’t make everyday a cheat day. It has to be strategic.

In weight loss you just need to see somebody, something tangible that you can hold on to because it is not really a journey you can do alone. It is very emotional. One of the things I discovered during my weight loss journey was that I was a cry baby. I cried for everything. I cried over everything. I was always crying. I got very emotional. If anything happened, I cried. I watched a movie, I cried. It’s an emotional journey. It’s a journey that you are going on alone. No matter how people love you they can’t walk that road with you. And it is also much more than a food journey, it is also an emotional journey.

On how she initially gained weight and what prompted her to begin her weight loss journey, Bose said:

My weight gain initially started from comfort eating and depression. I didn’t realize I was comfort eating. I didn’t realize I was depressed. But I knew I wasn’t happy. And comedy for me was a way to let it out. Every time I laughed at it I felt better until sometime in 2013 my period ceased completely. I wasn’t even near menopause. So I had to go see the doctor. They did all kinds of test and nothing was showing. It was then that I discovered I had hypothyroidism, which meant that my thyroid worked slower than anybody else’s; which is the reason why everyone goes on a diet or one week and they lose weight, but mine was different. If members of a church are fasting, for example, and they ask how many people are fasting, and people raise their hands and I raise mine, they look at me with sneer and derision, saying in their minds, ‘Does this woman look like someone who is fasting?’ So my metabolism was slower than anybody else’s. That’s why a friend can start losing weight in January and by February she has lost all the weight and you are still there by March and are still struggling

Lepacious Bose also added that in addition to the workouts, she did a little bit of skin removal and surgery to help her get the look she wanted. Speaking about that, she said:

Whatever it is that you need to do to get to where you want to get to, it's up to you. It's funny how people think that surgery makes it easier, it does not. You still have to eat healthy, you still have to exercise. It's not a shortcut.

Lepacious Bose has been very very vocal and open about her journey. I cannot possibly fit her entire story into this article but for a video summary of it, you can watch her sit down with Ebuka on Rubbin Minds.

5. Mercy Johnson Okojie

Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson Okojie, after 3 kids announced that she was going to go on a weight-loss journey. While some fans said they loved her just the way she was, the actress went ahead with her weight loss journey and came back with a new body, as well as a new "Flat Tummy Tea" which she began selling for as high as N30,000 for a packet with 28 bags.

If you're reading this, please know that all of these 'flat tummy teas' and 'slimming drinks' and 'instant fat burner teas' are simply laxatives. You drink them, they make you go to the toilet more times than you need to, and you think some miracle is working. 9.9 out of 10 times, there is no miracle. Please don't throw N30,000 away. Rather use that and buy actual fruits and vegetables that doctors have said is good for you.

Anyways, speaking on her weight loss tips, Mercy Johnson has attributed a part of it to physical activity and eating healthy, but has majorly been pushing this idea that it is her 'Flat Tummy Tea' that did the trick.

Ya, I don't think so Mercy.

Slimming tea ni. Slimming tea ko. 🤣

4. IllBliss

Nigerian rapper, Illbliss, recently lost quite a considerable amount of weight. Speaking on how he achieved this, he attributed it to his wife saying:

My wife told me I must do something about my size. She told me that whenever I took pictures, I looked like someone’s father. Even though I have reduced now, imagine I take a picture with Wizkid or Olamide; I will look like their father. I used to be bigger than this, but it was not working for me health wise. Now, I run a lot and I try to stay fit

Health is everything. I now feel like dying any day I don’t run. If you don’t go to the gym, it makes sense to do something that exercises your body. If sex works for you, do it but play safe.

Those days, I was a big man, people were hailing me as Notorious B.I.G. of Nigeria, but they were lying to me. They were only ridiculing me.

For instance, look at Rick Ross and Fat Joe; they don’t want to be big any longer. How come they are now running from the same thing that made them a brand? If being big is such an important thing, why hasn’t the record company dropped Rick after he lost weight?

3. Emem Bishop Umoh

Popular Nollywood actor and comedian, Emem Bishop Umoh popularly known as Okon Lagos, shocked fans when he posted a picture of his signature pot belly missing, replaced by a flat stomach and a trainer by his side.

Upon seeing the picture, many Nigerians didn't believe him and accused him of having 'audio weight loss'. He responded with an Instagram video that showed him sweating and tired after the gym. In the video, he raised his shirt to expose a 6-pack and captioned the picture:

Another sweaty night 😁💪💪 All the prosecution counsels for d Supreme Court Of Instablog Oya how market? 🤪🤪 #NuffSaid ...Good night good people 😁😁 #okonlagos #okonrepublic #iyammi #chisos #wosappen #ICanAndIWill

2. Ngozi Ezeonu

Ngozi Ezeonu shocked the internet when she posted new pictures of herself looking simply unrecognizable.

Many people upon seeing the picture immediately assumed that the weight loss was due to some kind of illness. Responding to that, Ngozi said:

I am not sick, i have been battling with my weight for ten years and i have finally achieved what i want. i am not sick, it is my choice to loose some weight and i pulled it off. I feel good loosing weight, it takes a lot of discipline.

I cut off eating a lot of things, i was addicted to coca cola, juice and i cut off all that, i also stopped eating banana altogether, it took a lot of discipline.

I stopped eating too much carbohydrates and I eat more of proteins and a lot of veggies…a lot.

I wonder why they will think i am ill when my skin is glowing and when i feel good. When people are used to see you looking fat and they see all the fat gone, their eyes play tricks on them.

1. Elvina Ibru

Nollywood actress, Elvina Ibru, lost a DRAMATIC amount of weight. In fact, the first time I saw Elvina on screen was in The Bling Lagosians so when I saw this picture of her before the weight loss, I was SHOCKED. Talk about a transformation.

Speaking about it to The Nation, Elvina said:

It was not really about being prettier or being more beautiful that I lost weight. It was more about my health. Though I never had health challenges attached to my former weight. At my biggest, I weighed 210 kg and I am 5 feet 11. That is a very large person! But I didn’t have ailments like diabetes, cholesterol or hypertension except for the small ache at my back. I didn’t want a situation where I had to get to where I became unhealthy. So I had to nip in the bud, the overweight. I cannot now talk about my diet because I am not through yet. I still want to go down 16-20 more kg. That is the size I feel I should keep, not because that is what health experts say, but what I feel I want.

THAT'S ALL.

Did any of these transformations shock you? If so, which ones shocked you the most?
