Trump's Coronavirus 'Cure' is Doing More Harm Than Good. Why?

Who is to blame?

Our story begins on March 19, 2020. The setting: James S. Brady Press Briefing Room in The United States White House. Our speaker, President Donald Trump speaking about the Coronavirus and the steps being taken as we move ahead.

I will highlight the specific parts from his speech that affect us today. He said about a new 'cure':

Now, a drug called chloroquine — and some people would add to it “hydroxy-.” Hydroxychloroquine. So chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine. Now, this is a common malaria drug. It is also a drug used for strong arthritis. If somebody has pretty serious arthritis, also uses this in a somewhat different form. But it is known as a malaria drug, and it’s been around for a long time and it’s very powerful. But the nice part is, it’s been around for a long time, so we know that if it — if things don’t go as planned, it’s not going to kill anybody.

When you go with a brand-new drug, you don’t know that that’s going to happen. You have to see and you have to go — long test. But this has been used in different forms — very powerful drug — in different forms. And it’s shown very encouraging — very, very encouraging early results. And we’re going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately. And that’s where the FDA has been so great. They — they’ve gone through the approval process; it’s been approved. And they did it — they took it down from many, many months to immediate. So we’re going to be able to make that drug available by prescription or states.

I will be basing this article on Nigeria and how the president's statement is affecting Nigeria specifically.

When news of this new 'cure' went public, Chloroquine immediately started flying off the shelves over here in Nigeria. The prices spiked up, people in their masses including a couple of people I personally know where consuming the drug whether they were showing symptoms of Covid-19 or not. In fact, not only were many people consuming this drug, but a number of people were recommending it to their friends, telling others not to "miss out", to "protect themselves". I personally feel all those offers were less about the other person being protected as much as they were about having company in case anything happened.

ONE DAY LATER, yes, just one day later, after President Trump's speech, news came to from the senior health assistant to the governor of Lagos State, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih.

People were already suffering from chloroquine poisoning.

But did that stop people from still-consuming the drug? Oh no, because the purchases of chloroquine kept on going and people not only overdosed on the drugs, reports tell us that some actually died.

Nigeria's Center for Disease Control, the NCDC issued a statement on Twitter. They said:

Yet Nigerians did not stop, and have still not stopped.

Despite the fact that the people who actually need chloroquine for themselves, their children, to combat malaria which it's actually proven to kill. That was once affordable to low-income households. That was fast-working and people's go-to drug for treating of malaria. Despite the fact that people who actually need it and have cried out for people to stop hoarding it. The government has said we should stop the consumption of chloroquine. HEALTH PROFESSIONALS have told us to stop with the consumption of chloroquine, yet we're still going.

Why?

This is my main question with this article: Why?

I have a theory but I'll love to hear your take on why you think this is happening. Please hear me out and then tell me your thoughts if you want to on my Facebook. You can leave a comment or message me.

My theory is: We're Not A Trusting People. And who could blame us?

When you live your entire life having to look out for yourself and family by yourself without any real direct help from your government, your faith in the government fades.

We've gotten so used to reading news stories or articles on our own, trying them out, and seeing result that we feel strongly in our ability to self-provide, to self-medicate.

We heard that salt, sugar, and water can help with diarrhea or any tummy ache and we tried it. It worked. We didn't need no health worker or government official for that.

We heard that drinking of hot tea helps with constipation and we tried it. Again, it worked. No help from any medical professional or government there.

Now we've heard from an authority figure that chloroquine is the cure to Covid. We're going to once again try it. Health professionals be damned. But at what cost?

We have seen deaths. We have seen people get hospitalized and still we continue in our radical head-first dive into consuming this product. Why?

Even if we no longer trust our government and health officials, at least we should be able to trust our brothers and sisters. They died doing the same thing you're now doing. The least we can do is honor their deaths by not repeating the same mistakes. We cannot all jump from Olumo Rock because one man in America said we should for crying out loud.

Moreover, the internet exists. We can use it to inform ourselves. And I'm not saying to only read the articles that you agree with. Whatever that drug is you want to take, instead of searching "Why Chloroquine is good for you", search the opposite: "Why Chloroquine is bad for you".

I employ you to do this not only with Chloroquine but with anything that you ever want to ingest or apply to your body but are not sure about. Don't search only for why it works, also try to search for why it doesn't. Because most of the time on this internet, everybody is trying to sell you something and nine times out of ten, whatever site is telling you the benefits of something is usually trying to sell you that thing. So please my people, keep your eyes open.

Trump's Coronavirus 'Cure' is Doing More Harm Than Good. Why? Because WE are letting it do the harm.

This Chloroquine of a thing is not healing us. It's killing us. Despite what the American president has said, which by the way is contrary to what the health professionals are saying across the board, we cannot take his word for it.

Let us not kill ourselves over panic and mania. I beg you. If this is a PSA then I guess it is. Please, let us stay safe and stop the consumption of this chloroquine unless prescribed to by a doctor.

Please. I Beg You. Let us live for tomorrow.
