Meditation is self-care. Whether you opt to listen to a guided meditation on YouTube or you focus on a lit candle flame and let your mind clear out of all thoughts and worries, meditation has too many benefits to mention. It's known to help lower blood pressure, slow heart rate, help with anxiety attacks, and so much more.

Why do we feel like we're the right people to tell you that you should be meditating? Well, our co-founder Yvonne, aka Cylestea Fortunaa, is an expert in meditation and teaches meditation to others as a Holistic Life Coach. With that in my, let's get down to it!

Here are five other reasons you should be adding meditation to your daily to-do list. These reasons are ones that every single one of us can get behind, really. If you're thinking, "Well, that doesn't sound like me," there's a chance you're trying too hard to ignore the fact that life IS stressful, we all battle anxiety sometimes, we all need a little more awareness of ourselves and the world around us, and I could go on and on ...

1. Lowers your stress levels

You find a calm in meditation that does so many good things (as I already mentioned above). By taking time out for meditative breathing, mindfulness meditation (Paying attention to what's going on around you, but not reacting to it -- just allowing it to wash over you and know that you can remain calm and balanced), or even guided meditation, you can reduce your stress greatly. With guided meditation, you can find great focused meditations on YouTube specifically for stress, anxiety, depression, and other things that make life harder to live. Even if your depression seems to come and go, a moment of focused meditation to deal with what is bringing it on can do so much good for your mind.

2. Increases your awareness

Meditation, especially mindful meditation, gives us a chance to look within and open our minds more to what is and isn't going on around us. When you learn to let go of the thoughts that cloud your mind, you have more time to be aware of not only what is going on around you, but also what important things within you need your attention. You may notice thoughts you've been shoving down instead of dealing with them. Or, you may notice pains that were hidden under your busy days and full calendars. Once you're opened up to these things you can look for root causes and heal yourself.

3. Helps develop intuitive skills

While increasing awareness is a great way to connect with your intuitive skills, you can also do meditations specifically meant to help you increase your intuitive abilities and open your third eye. The thing is, to get these benefits, you need to meditate regularly -- as they say, use it or lose it. Everyone has intuitive abilities, we just aren't all open-minded enough to use them. We're busy, closed off, and not paying enough attention to our gut feelings. If you really want to hone your intuition, just start using it and trusting it more and more, and it will work for you, more and more.

4. Helps you let go of negativity

Meditation is a positive experience, and taking time out for this special type of self-care helps you let go of negativity. The more positive things you do, and the more positive thoughts you put out in the world, the more positivity you'll invite into your life. As someone who is a student and follower of the Law of Attraction, this is so very important when it comes to living the life you long for. If negative thoughts come up during your meditation, don't just push them away. Instead, look at them, accept them, then move past them. Perhaps they are something you'll need to come back to later in shadow work.

5. Lets you focus on NOW

Most importantly of all, meditation allows you to focus on the present more than the past or future. It allows you to stop fighting with your past -- especially if you choose to do some shadow work meditations. It keeps you from worrying about the future, while you live your life now. Letting go of the negativity of the past will surely make it easier to just live and wait to see what the future holds. Be more in tune with your present life -- it's nice here.
