An Introduction to the Air Signs of the Zodiac

What do you think of when you think of the air? You think of breathing, cool breezes, and the rustle of leaves in the trees, right? Air has a dark side too, when those breezes turn into angry gusts of wind, and it almost seems like it can turn from a delightfully calm day to a typhoon in moments. Both of these things describe the air signs. On their good days, they are a breath of fresh air, and on their bad ones, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Air signs tend to be open-minded, as they lean into their free-spirited ways. They’re also excellent communicators – aka, they love to talk. Think of them as the Swords of the Tarot -- they open us up to communication, but it may not always be happy storytime! Gemini the Twins

Represented by twins, Gemini is often seen as two-faced and unable to make up their minds, but this is only something that strikes Gemini when they are truly out of balance and off their game. When aligned and feeling good about life, Gemini is all about learning and spending time with people -- they LOVE people.

Gemini will work hard to get to know you because they love information. They’re gossips, though, so expect to hear all of the latest spilled tea from the people in their lives (and watch what you share with them until you’re close enough pals to know you can trust them). Gemini is curious and a social butterfly, flitting from one person to the next to share their stories and experiences.

Gemini is mutable, which means they’re adaptable to the things around them. Ruled by Mercury, Gemini loves traveling and are even more chatty than the other air signs.

Libra the Scales

Libra is represented by the scales, for balance. And, when balanced, this sign is very easy to spend time with – they’re sociable, are considerate of others, and they’re absolutely charming. On the other hand, they don’t like confrontation, and while this could be okay, it sometimes causes them to shut down to the outside world and get caught up in their own heads.

Because of their intelligence, Libra sometimes seems a little on the shallow side. Their moods are like the weather and are easily changed by the moods of those around them. Suggest something happy for Libra to do and you may help pull them out of a funk. Let them in on your angry feelings about someone, and they may be fuming right next to you and ready to fight.

Libra is a cardinal sign, the leader of the air signs, and can often be seen as a trendsetter (that charm helps). Libra is ruled by Venus, which makes them love love and yearn for connectedness with the people around them.

Aquarius the Water Bearer

Aquarius may be the water bearer, but they’re definitely an air sign. They too love to communicate, but they find it easier to challenge the world than be agreeable. They’re independent folks, so they don’t mind stepping away from the social stuff and spending time with smaller groups of people. And, oh are they adventurous. They have no issues flitting off to who-knows-where, all alone, and making new friends while they're visiting.

Because of their aloofness when it comes to hanging out with the crowd, Aquarius can seem detached and distant at times. They’ll open back up when they’re ready to, and they don’t like being rushed.

Aquarius is a fixed sign, making them enjoy keeping things the way they are. They’re not huge fans of change. Ruled by Uranus, Aquarius has a creative side that makes them innovative and original.
