Does your partner always want to have sex more often than you? Are you perfectly fine going a week or more without intercourse? Does it feel like it takes more to get you aroused?

If you answered yes to one or all of these questions, you might have a low libido. Saying this doesn't make you a freak or less than another human.

A low libido, or a decrease in sex drive, can come from a multitude of things. It could merely be your body doesn't crave sex as much as others or that your hormones are slightly unbalanced.

I do want to disclaim that I am in no way a professional. There is a chance that your low sex drive could stem from a health issue, and you should always talk to a professional about your health.

The tips below are natural herbs and techniques you can try that, at the very least, are healthy additions to your daily routine. If these don't work, you should seek out professional help.

From herbs to activities, there are ways to boost your libido. While your partner or partners should never make you feel guilty for not wanting to have intercourse, I understand the struggle with low libido.

As someone who has a drastically different sex drive than my partner, I sometimes put extra guilt on myself. While I knew it didn't bother him, it put a strain on our relationship in the fact that it bothered me.

Whatever your reasoning, adding these steps might help get you more in the mood in the bed.

Eat dark chocolate to increase libido.

You do not need to tell me this tip twice. I am a lover of sweets and chocolate is high on that list of sweet treats I love. Not only is it delicious, but it also has a lot of amazing benefits for the body. Some of these benefits include:

  • Source of antioxidants
  • Improve blood flow
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Could improve brain functions

Dark chocolate has a significant amount of antioxidants (so much that it is known as a superfood) and helps release serotonin into your body.

While studies are a little mixed on if this is a physical or psychological change, dark chocolate is never a bad thing to have on hand.

A few of the nutritious treats you find in dark chocolate (70% or more) include magnesium and phenylethylamine. While magnesium helps ease stress and tension in your mind and body, phenylethylamine is a compound our body creates when we are in love.

This is why, when eating dark chocolate, you might feel a little bit calmer or happier. Adding this to your daily eating routine (sign me up!) will help boost those good feelings and, in turn, boost your sex drive.

Communication and foreplay in the bedroom is a must.

These are not naughty words to say and should be spoken about more often. While you can change your diet and start taking pills to enjoy sex, the biggest issue is a lack of communication in the bedroom. You don't have to give a novel of advice, but you don't have to stay silent either. It is common for women not to achieve the big O from penetration alone. Something a lot of females don't realize because we, and porn, have never told them.

Next time you're in bed, tell your partner what you DO like. Not only is this usually a turn on for both of you, but you would be amazed at just how happy they are to make you happy.

Going straight from watching 'The Office' to quick penetration is not fun for anyone (at least it's not common for women). Foreplay can go a long way in the bedroom.

If you feel a little embarrassed to bring these things up, practice first by asking your partner what some of their sexual fantasies are. Then, you can try them out in the bedroom. Afterward, share a few of yours and let them find ways to please you.

It also can be easier to say what you did like after intercourse for some as opposed to at the moment. As someone who never spoke, even when I was in pain, this was a smooth transition into more communication.

I would wait until the moment was over and then tell him what I liked about it. He would be more likely to do those things the next time and, to my surprise, was even more curious about what I wanted.

If your partner loves and cares for you, they will want to please you in the bedroom. Sometimes our low libido stems from lousy sex. Communication and foreplay are one of the best ways to make boring sex fun for everyone involved.

Incorporate maca powder into your drinks.

As someone who suffers from PCOS, I have made it a mission to find every single herb and food out there to balance hormones. From this research, I learned about maca powder and the amazing properties it has.

A few benefits of maca powder, or maca root, include:

  • It's high in nutrition
  • Increase fertility
  • Improve mood and increase energy
  • Boost sex drive for males and females

The main one I started taking it for was the increase in sex drive. I was shocked how, after a week of taking the powder, I genuinely felt more cravings for sex than I ever had before.

Studies have shown that this powder has helped increase sex drive in both genders after ingesting it for around six weeks. The powder is easy to add to your tea, coffee, or smoothie each day.

It has a root-like taste that some love and others not so much. If you can't get over the taste, you can easily incorporate it in pill form or liquid extract.

Healthy sleep equals a healthy libido.

We all know the repercussions that ensue from a lack of sleep. Without sleep, our bodies start wearing down, become stressed, and don't function the way they should.

If you have a decrease in sex drive, try to add a couple more hours of zzz's to your night and see if that can boost that sex drive back up. A good night of sleep can be beneficial in more than one way for the bedroom!

When we have enough sleep, we reap benefits like:

  • More cognitive function
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Increased energy and mood
  • Lower levels of stress and anxiety
  • Overall better health

One of the main reasons you might have a drop in libido after months/years of poor sleep stems from your hormones. Without proper rest, our hormones like testosterone and estrogen can become unbalanced.

Testosterone is an important hormone when it comes to sex drive. Having this drop, especially for men, can lead to a multitude of symptoms, including low libido.

Find ways to relieve everyday stress and anxiety.

Most of us have issues in the bedroom because of this tip and this tip alone. The problem is, how do you relieve stress from a stressful life?

Stress wears down your body, interrupts the natural sleep cycle, can cause acne, and can be detrimental to your sex organs. Not only can it stop a period in its tracks, but it can eliminate all sex drive.

While I can't give a clear answer to fix this, I can provide a few helpful tips. A huge one is a diet and exercise. I'm not saying you have to be thin to be relaxed, but you need to be healthy. When our body is not healthy, we are just asking for stress on our bodies.

Make sure you are eating foods that are good for YOU and doing some sort of physical activity throughout the week.

A few ways to lower stress levels include:

  • Meditation
  • A decent nights sleep
  • Yoga
  • Seeking help
  • Journaling
  • Creating structure and routine
  • Some form of weekly workout

By adding whole foods and exercise into your weekly routine, you have already helped your body out tremendously. When your body is functioning at the best level, so is your mood.

It does not mean you can get rid of depression or anxiety with this little tip, however. These stress-relieving aids help with the everyday frustrations we have in our life. If you don't find yourself feeling better, it might be time to seek professional help.

There is nothing wrong with asking for help. We all need it, and it is incredibly strong to be able to show that vulnerability and love for yourself.

A few other honorable mentions you can use to increase your libido include:

  • Adding herbs like ginseng or Tribulus
  • Incorporating garlic into your meals
  • Quit smoking and excessive drinking
  • Work on boosting self-confidence
