When you start a new diet, it’s common to feel like that first awkward moment when you introduce any new habit into your life. You know, the period of adjustment where everything seems strange and foreign? That moment when you’re not quite sure what to eat or drink, what’s ok and what isn’t, and how the heck to make it all work for you? It’s exactly that. Keto is no different.

When I started the ketogenic diet nearly three weeks ago now, I was filled with all these nagging questions: Could I really do this for the long-term? Is it even healthy? And so in today’s blog post we are going to dive deep into everything you need to know before beginning a ketogenic diet – so that way whether you just embark on yours or are interested in doing so sometime soon, you know exactly what’s coming and how to get there successfully!

What is Keto?

The Keto diet is a high-fat, very low-carb, moderate protein diet that offers a number of health benefits and has been scientifically proven to be the most effective way to lose weight.

The goal of this diet is to get your body into "ketosis," which is when your body changes from using carbs for energy to using stored fats for energy. Your caloric intake will range from 20 - 50 grams per day with an emphasis on healthy fats such as avocados, olive oil and nuts as well as fish and limited proteins like eggs, poultry and red meat. Foods that you can eat on this plan include leafy greens and green beans.
